Not much to say

but... I'll try....

I'm a Tree Hugger!

, ,

We are blessed with such magnificent nature all around us.
Often we take this for granted, especially when we live in huge cities.
We forget that it's the small things that matter most.

Like the fluffy clouds above us...
the tree that blossoms every year...
the subtle breeze that cools us on a hot day...

When I think of one specific thing in nature that I adore, it has to be the tree that stands outside my bedroom window.
When Spring rolls by, it carries the most magnificent purple blossoms that frangrances my room with the sweetest scent. And when the wind blows through the branches - delicate little purple blossoms rain down.

It's these simple pleasures of life that we find in nature that inspire and evokes the sweetest emotions, memories and poetic words.

So, this is my poem to my favourite tree...

I'M A TREE HUGGER!

I want to sit high up in the tree,
High - where only I can reach.
And the only company I have is the playful breeze,
and the tiny purple blossoms that fall from the tree.

I want to sit high up in the tree,
High - where the rest of the world cannot see.
And all around me seems peaceful and calm,
and the lull of a bird sings me to sleep.

I want to sit high up in the tree,
High - where all that surrounds me are blossoms
and leaves and wood under my feet.
and Spring's scent fills the heated air.

Yes, high up in the tree where Spring returns-
each and every year!

I'm a Tree Hugger, are you?

Let's take care of the nature and environment around us because it keeps us alive and creates the best poetry wink

posting now, reading now

Walking through the forest, i can not see
Where on earth is Melissa hiding?
If only a bird i could bee.
Through the sky i would be gliding.
Through the clouds i would be searching,
The earth beneath i would be probing.

I'm not a poet, but i should do try

Hello again to my favorite POET!

The feelings are the same for me when all of outdoors is ours to see.

I have been a tree hugger, climber, as well as sleeping up in the limbs

on high.

How ignorant that so many lay waste too,"..only God can make a tree".

I have been adding a lot of music to my site as well as my view of youth

raised in country then growing up in the city

In my style of prose.

Thank you little one for another fresh breath of your music with words

sing I also love the new pictures!

Nice work!

Yeah nature is definitely a treasure no matter what religion, belief or way of living you derive from.

It should be protected with our lives since it is what has preserved ourselves for so long?

Nature is an amazing muse for writing or most kinds of work really lol Hmm I would say Im much more acquainted with the ocean. Sounds odd, but the beach is my place for thought, or basically if there are natural waves running, Im going to be able to relax.

Its just a connection I cant really explain with words but it certainly drives me with energy and will to do something great, is this how the tree in your work affects you?

Yeah I finally got around to using opera again lol how've you been?

Prit and Pranvir, thank you very much for sweet comments smile

Manly... I'm your favorite poet?.... What a great honour :O

Hey Tom. Yes, I agree, nature is a brilliant muse. There's so much inspiration to find in nature smile
I know what you mean about the ocean. I love the beach smile
Many things in nature inspire me and the tree is one of my favorites - cause it has so many memories linked to it too smile

Thank you very much for the comments smile

Hey Melissa,

Beautiful.... in many ways.
Long time no see. You remind me of a song I wrote a while back when I was an environmental activist. Still am I guess. Here it is. Never recorded it. May just do it this weekend. Drop me a line sometime. Peace.

Song Catcher
Chords: D, F#7aug5, A7, D
Chorus: G, A7, D, G

Mother Earth, she writes the songs.
Then she sings, she sings them through the breeze.
Lucky is the one who hears them all day long.
Gentle, soothing words, drifting through the trees.

Song Catcher, fishing in the wind.
Could you please grab a song and jot it down for me.
Song Catcher, how do you begin
to understand what all this means?

Laying low, on a Sunday morning
Lounging in the park underneath a tree.
Pencil poised in hand, waiting for the sign.
Breathing deep and sipping coffee.

Song Catcher, fishing in the wind.
Could you please grab a song and jot it down for me.
Song Catcher, how do you begin
to understand what all this means?

Read the landscape like a book.
Smile and turn the pages.
And all throughout the ages,
one just has to look
For beauty where they find it,
The magic rhythm binds it.
Tie it all together and let your pencil move.

Song Catcher, fishing in the wind.
Could you please grab a song and jot it down for me.
Song Catcher, how do you begin
to understand what all this means?

Melissa, a beautiful poem about a very special tree. I write all the way from Canada to send you my congratulations. Taking care of nature is certainly the great subject of our times. My latest book The Splintered Face Tsunami Poems ia a series of 56 poems written after the Asian Tsunami of 2004.

My blog is http://indranamirthanayagam.blogspot.com

I have not yet come to South Africa but have read your writers for many years. I would like to know more about contemporary poets.

take care

Hi, thank you very much for all the comments bigsmile
I'm extremely sorry for replying so late...
I was away on vacation for a while smile

Hope you're all doing well smile

Thanks again! smile

CGarris Saturday, January 12, 2008 3:27:34 AM

Hi Melissa,

I hope you had a great time on your vacation and that it provided you with inspiration for your next poem!

Living in the States, it's hard for me to imagine summer vacation in December and January; our time for snow and ice (LOL). I have several SA co-workers and have pointed them to your SA tourists guide. They loved it and even admitted that they had almost forgotten some of those sayings they used back in SA!!!

Would you believe I was actually able to find Biltong in North Carolina? I am now a hero to my SA friends here smile

Thanks again for the time and effort you've put into your site.

Hi smile Yes, I had a great vacation... Just too bad that vacations are always too short p

Kind and sweet comments like yours are the things that definitely inspire me, so thank you very much smile

I'm very glad that I could bring back fond memories to some of your friends. It's truly amazing to get such positive feedback bigsmile

I'm working on a project that's mainly based on poems about Africa... So, please visit again soon. I'll post as many of those poems as I can here smile

Thanks again for visiting and commenting, I truly appreciate it smile

I'm a tree hugger too....few years back....some people tried taking downthe trees in front of the houses in my locality....we gathered up a lot of children and hugged trees when they brought out their saws....and didn't let 'em cut the trees....after few days they decided not to chop the trees....WE WON:lol:
