Tom Derksen joined SNV Vietnam as Country Director in 2008. He has over 25 years experience in international development primarily in management functions. In his 13 years as Director for the SNV Netherlands Development Organisation and Consul of the Netherlands (Hon) in Nepal and Bhutan he built up expertise in all aspects of management: strategic planning, human resources management, financial management, resource mobilisation, tendering, result based monitoring and evaluation, quality control, communication, networking and representation.
He has been working since 2000 as an independent management and capacity development consultant/trainer while managing a tourism company at home. In these various functions he has gained extensive hands-on experience with capacity development processes in a wide range of sectors: rural development, decentralisation and local governance, civil society strengthening, private sector development, education, natural resources management, women’s rights water supply and irrigation. In his capacity development work he has gained thorough knowledge of and experience with facilitating organisational and individual learning processes (using systems and other approaches), training, advising, coaching, gender mainstreaming and conflict management. He has carried out interim management assignments for various companies in Zambia, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Nepal and Vietnam.
In his work as Director and as consultant he has directly and indirectly contributed to the management development of over 75 national and international organisations (government, private and NGO sector).
As a Director he has had oversight responsibility for international multi-cultural teams varying in size from 30 to 250 staff members. [/ALIGN]
