091123 - 1903-1910: Pins and Needles

In which little pinpricks spur me on...

The obvious, first: 25 pins/needles/sharp implements/thin metal rods were stuck into my upper back, lower back, hip and this funny muscle that runs along the inside of your thigh. This too was the first time I used the F word because it hurt so much. I was covered in sweat by the time TM was done stabbing my back. I must never tell him my eye has started twitching as I'm sure he'd be quite happy to take a stab at the optic nerve too.

The additional needles: Then a surprise vaccination clinic at work where smiling nurses were lining up to have at you with vaccines for the swine flu and the seasonal flu. Questions were asked about eligibility; I got in on the basis of age and looking generally peaked. Then after some warnings about pain, allergies and possible contraindications, they stuck one needle into the left arm, then a second into the right arm: "We put the vaccine for H1N1 into the non-dominant arm, because it has a tendency to hurt more than the regular vaccine. Deep breath now, teeny pinprick coming!"

Advil and a lolly was provided, I ingested neither. So good of me.

Metaphorical Pins and Needles: The kind you get when anticipating something or when you realize decisions need to be made, or when some thoughts need to be clarified.

  1. Mr. PDX-B has finished his edits and sent me the long-awaited files; very kind of him.
  2. To retire something that obviously isn't working very well - should I cut my losses now or grow old and decrepit and become incontinent waiting for a change?
  3. There can be many reasons for one specific action - which is the correct one to ascribe to the consequences of the action?
  4. Should I stop this blog?

ONE: Mr. PDX-B is a most excellent gentleman; he keeps his word - it helps that he doesn't say many words in the first place, nor is he given to premature and naive enthusiasms that die an early death. So much less to have to live up to. Long may he prosper! Yah.

TWO: I generally don't like cutting losses because I can be a bit of a pack-rat, but OY! if I'm going to be old, decrepit and incontinent when the changes come, it will do me no good. None whatsoever.

THREE: This one puzzled me, then I looked back at some former posts in June and remembered that it doesn't really matter what the reasons are; what matters is how it works for you. Does it work? If yes, then fine. If no, well change it. Context and perspective. So useful in decision making.

FOUR: It's almost 6 years now since I started tapping away. I do get bored of writing. Sometimes I feel compelled to do so because I do have an audience, albeit a teeny one, that stretches outwards from Vancouver to North Vancouver to the BC interior to Alberta to Ontario to Quebec to across the US, Western Europe, Asia and Australia. I only lack consistent readers from Africa and the two Poles. But there are times when I feel this is another rut I'm in. Writing blogs - it's so 90s somehow. I'll take it under consideration for the time being.

Blah, blah, blah, blah. In the end it doesn't really matter. It's all so much drivel and inane bullshit.

Two random thoughts to finish with:
a) My tombstone shall read: "Exceeded All Expectations!"
b) I sense a potentially paradigm-changing collaboration with Dr. TS starting in 2010.

Ooh. These could be my last words! But probably not, not witty, nor elegant, enough.

I've learned (I've HAD to learn rolleyes ) to be very forgiving of your sports knowledge.
