Hungry Ghost's Daily Diet (TM)

Dec 21 2009. One year already. Hrumph.

Dilemmas

, ,

In which I agonise needlessly over a Friday decision...

But first some good news.

And before that, some background.

(My, I do like stretching a story out don't I?)

Last week, I found out that a letter of intent I'd put in was booted up to the next level of competition. This means that the competition becomes harder, and the application itself becomes more difficult to complete. It all came down to getting letters from the right people.

Bossman was being all optimistic, but when he said "feck" after hearing I'd been pushed into the senior next level, I knew he was just putting on a brave face.

Then we got this e-mail:

Originally posted by Dr. FB:

I will be happy to write a letter in support of Hungryghost and will do everything I can since I'll need his help to build a critical mass in imaging at the [my Institution]

(Let's savour this a bit shall we?)

...happy to write..., he said.

...do everything he can..., he said.

...neeed [my] help..., he said.

...build a critical mass..., he said.

Why, I feel like Sally Field winning the Oscar all over again.

I feel like I'm in love all of a sudden, although that bit about critical mass, you don't think Dr. FB is saying I'm fat do you? :eyes:

(Into each life, must a little rain fall, a thorn in every rose etc, etc, etc.)

Back to the dilemmas.

I have today off, but am not going to use it for the original purpose for which I took it off. So...I could go into work and bank the day for later. Or I could just take it off completely (the day that is) and clean up around the house, paint the wall, put the garden to bed etc. etc. etc. Or I could (since I have my work laptop) head down to a cafe, get a good coffee and work a bit and have the best of both worlds - be out of work, and bank the day off. Or would that be having your cake and eating it too?

Maybe, since it's a sunny day and looks like it could be warm, I'll just go for a relaxing, shake the cobwebs out of the head, run and take in the day, smell the roses etc etc.

The options. The options. The options. Ah. I think I'll just have a second coffee first.

WAIT! Did I just hear the trap door shut?!

Oooh yes. Squirrel # 2 is now in the trap. Ha. That'll teach the little buggers to come and dig around in my pots. I'll have to take the little critter somewhere to dispose of it. Oh relax, I'm not going to kill it (even though bossman said it's the best thing to do). Just take it far, far, far away like maybe West Vancouver....

Ah. The day, he is going well. Dr. FB loves me, I love Dr. FB, so nice being in a lovefest. And even better, I've caught squirrel number 2 of 3 who've been plaguing the deck.

Special for Spooksister (bike picture to come later).

Gently she goes into the nightMore dilemmas!

Wow! It would be exciting to be part of a critical mass! Does that also mean that you would have a part to play in achieving maximum velocity?

San 27. October 2007, 01:30

That would be pretty mean putting a downtown squirrel out in my upscale neighborhood. Wrong side of the tracks that one. I bet he knows something about the whereabouts of a certain unicorn.

hungryghost 27. October 2007, 06:19

Yes, except that I'm not so sure that critical mass is achieved with just me and Dr. FB...we need more...weight....

velocity...hmmm, not really my department, at least not in imaging...but I'll posit it to Dr. FB :D :D

hungryghost 27. October 2007, 06:20

I beg your pardon young lady! I'm not in downtown, I'm in Kits, practically at Point Grey! Your property values would only increase with a few Kits Squirrels running around looking cute.

San 27. October 2007, 13:49

Practically in Point Grey young man?

hungryghost 27. October 2007, 15:38

yes practically speaking. In point grey. We have all manner of mansions here and Restoration Hardware to boot!

Mark Jones 28. October 2007, 08:01

hungryghost 28. October 2007, 19:44

"I'd like to thank the Academy, Bossman, the People of Saskatchewan, where many good, excellent and wonderful movies are made...."

:D :D

Mark Jones 28. October 2007, 20:06

Yay thats good you released my friend:P Thought he was gonna be part of your diet for a second lol:lol:

hungryghost 28. October 2007, 20:29

no, no not at all. Squirrels. They're kind of gamey :yuck:

ALLY G. 29. October 2007, 20:03

a second squirrel? in your garden? :eyes:
Or is it the comeback of the first one???

hungryghost 29. October 2007, 20:08

nope, it's the second one :D

ALLY G. 29. October 2007, 23:29

Ohh, maybe there will come the whole family, with brothers and sisters and nieces and nephews to visit Mr. Hungryghost. :yikes:

hungryghost 30. October 2007, 00:05

NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO!

ALLY G. 30. October 2007, 07:07

Hm, I don't understand your excitement.
When we had our own garden with 2 big walnut trees, there always were a few of squirrels. I enjoyed to watch these little cute animals.

hungryghost 30. October 2007, 17:29

These squirrels come for food and they dig in my pots, eat the roots of the plants and kill them. They also dig for my bulbs and in doing so have pushed my pots over breakting them and getting dirt all over my deck. They've also started stealing the food I leave o ut for birds. That's why i don't like them visiting...

San 31. October 2007, 03:31

The black squirrels are not cute I'll attest to that. They are not native to our province as well. Not much better than rats they are. And...in the park, they get really aggressive and try to attack people if they don't feed them. :knight:
