Memento Mori

Mr. A G died last night, and what a send off he was given. Lightning, heavy clouds, an end of the world quality to the sky, heavy raindrops. He would have liked it, I'm quite sure of that.
"Very impressive, wouldn't you say HG?", he'd have said with a smile.
I picture him and K in his green Triumph Spitfire now.

Kuching, Friends, Memento Mori
In 1999, I had the distinct pleasure of hearing a Japanese-Peruvian woman speak with a Japanese woman in Kuching; contrary to expectations, they were not speaking Japanese, but Spanish. This always amused me especially since the rest of us were speaking a mixture of manglish. A few years later, Patty, the Japanese-Peruvian, was in Vancouver and we scoured the city for authentic char-kway-teow, but no restaurant could come close to the dish that she had at Hui Sing. When my cousin BC visited Patty in Japan, he would have to bring packets of char-kway-teow
("Make sure it's from Hui Sing!!) for her. Last night, Patty left us - much, much too soon.
