International Night @ Northumbria

hehehe, months of preparation finally comes to an end when on the 16th of March 2004, The International Night @ Norhtumbria took place! I was never worried about the show not a success. I was doubtfull at the beginning, but after reading the response from societies and local organization, i know that it would be a grand success! For a start, the Lord Mayor of Newcastle, and the Vice Chancelor of Northumbria University as well as Newcastle university was there. Then there are societies that were complaining that they're members still wanna come, but no tickets are left. Surely you can't go wrong?
A few things did go not as planned though. For a start, there was no control over visitors, as planned before. Tickets were not properly inspected at the beginning. This happens because the venue didn't close down as expected. During the preparation, the bar was still open, so it is not possible to stop people from entering =/
Have to give it to the Indonesian people. Decoration was done practically in a matter of hours from ZERO! i didn't think about decoration before, and suddenly some people just brought some traditional cloths, and recipees. Then another guy brought their wayang puppet. so it turns out very Indonesian indeed. other stalls worth mentioning was the Chinese and Vietnamese. A Japanese guy represented the whole country by himself! he did a great job at entertaining the kids with the origami craft. great fun.
There was some problem with the projector system. again, its dell computer setup that doesn't allow any colour to get to the projector. since there's no colour coming out, the flag presentation becomes impossible to do. It would be a nice break in between the performances as well tho, because it was like one after the other, all through the night and by 9 pm, i was feeling exhausted. there should haave been a break.
i was DJ-ing helped by Ashley, who knows better about the sound system. I got music collection from all different places, Kenya, China, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia, India, Spain, etc.! It was great fun listening to all these music ^_^ Everybody was asking to play the bhangra song over and over again. I played it like 5 times in total! boy they love that song lol
Too bad I had to go before it finishes though, well it's tough being the organizer, isn't it? you won't be able to party like you should! the after party was nice though. We went to the Attic, and paid £2 to enter with a welcome drink. pretty cheap, and good music. maybe coz it was student night.
