i had an accident with the pc just two days ago
i was trying to re-organize my hard drive, and generally creating a bigger partition because i was not happy with how things are set up. I want to merge a 6GB partition with another 6GB. a friend suggester the partition magic, and after reading testimonials and such, i was convinced to give it a try. unfortunately, i was having a bad luck. i didn't realize that I don't have enough free space in the first partition to accomodate the second one. As a result the second partition dissapeared from the hard drive. i spend two days trying to recover it, but in the end, i accept the fact and didn't bother anymore. Not that I blame PartitionMagic (YOU!) i think its a great piece of software, without which I wouldn't be able to do partition managing at all! u just have to be careful. Like anything else... i guess
I lost a year worth of pictures, with friends and such!!! so bad. luckily i had a couple here and there, spread over the internet, when i was sharing it with friends. so i had some pictures that means a lot to me, but as for the rest which are mostly fun pictures, they would be gone. now this would be a quest for me to get back in touch with mates and ask for pictures back. should be a fun thing to do ^^
So again, i would like to stress how important it is to have a backup of stuff you couldn't live without!! MAKE BACKUP...!
Testdisk is a useful tool to recover your partition, plus its under OpenSource licence:
