Text messages, isn't it time to have phones with voice recognition software?

,

something pop up in my mind tonight. i was reading about an article at bbc, reviewing the latest in mobile technology, their problem with the slow adaptation of the 3g technology, and what the future holds. in the article, they discuss the profit the phone companies are making, £/MB data send in the form of text messages. they said it is 'phenomenal'.

for some reason, i started thinking about text messages, and wonder how long it takes to type and send text. Why, isn't there exist somewhere in the world a technology called 'voice recognition'? let's just wonder about the possibility of having a phone that compose text message as you dictate into it. wouldn't it be great?

compare this, now, to voice messages. i never really warmed to the idea of voice message. there's a few reasons for this. I always feel nervous when the voice of the lady on the other end announces to 'leave your message after the tone...'. in the panic, i suddenly forgot what i want to say. how do i start? hello? or the more formal 'this is a message for mr. x' type of opening speech? very unsettling.

then again, when you leave a phone number on the voice mail, how many times do you repeat the message? Find a pen! oh, paper too! damnit, i miss the last three digit! oh well, just start again then... and so on.

if you use the (you hear it here first) vocally composed text message or V-text for short, all this problems would be obsolete, wouldn't it? you'll save time from typing all that abc, save money from calling ur mailbox, the comfort of dialing from text, etc...
