it's been announced that Nintendo is finalising their deal with game shops and hotspots around the world to allow NDS owner to play online multiplayer games, this November! in UK, Europe and US, the first game to support online multiplayer would be Mario Kart DS, and in Japan, its Animal Crossing DS. all good game site would have more details about this, like.
but anyway, according to Nintendo, you'll be able to go to a game shop, buy Mario Kart DS, plug in into ur console and play online straight away. no setting up, no registration, no fee, and the game shop will pay the internet bill for you!
it will also connect to the internet through your home wireless network effortlessly. No mention about firewall, port forwarding, static ip, or anything. sounds weird? weirdly simple, that is!
if you have an internet connection, but no wireless access point, they are selling a usb dongle to plug into your pc. the dongle will act as the NDS access point.
the Mario Kart is going to use a scoring system to allow you to play against people at your level, and you can choose to play locally, nationally, or globally. No chat function means that there's no flaming, name calling and so on (what?).
That's all I know for now, and I am fixed on my screen waiting for news update...
