My notes...

sometimes I write something here

My first photo blog with opera mini

Guess what? It's in my hands!

Yup! I'm writing from my NOKIA770, the prize that Opera has sent to me  It's arrived here yesterday, I am ill now but it's not difficult to use this beauty comfortably in my bed! Thanks to Opera for this gift, and to all the community members that have posted nice comments about my artwork. Hope to stay well soon and find some time to submit a second artwork as a "part-2" of the first one!

Made "Sticky-notes" for Opera

Thanks to the fine cross-browser "Little Yellow Stickies" javascript code of Brian McAllister, the great power of the Opera browser, plus some modifications, improvements, integration in Opera and documentation by me, we can enjoy a nice and useful tool: sticky-notes on web pages. Go to the project page and try the demo.

Please note that by now, there is a problem with Gmail's web interface loading, so if you use Gmail's web interface I suggest you not to use this userJS. I'll fix it some day.

I use them a lot on my homepage :)

Opera's "Your Face in Times Square!" contest

I've made my submission for the Your Face in Times Square! contest. Here it is my face popping out from the Opera logo: picture (216 KB)

Opera's "Nokia770: if you had the real thing..." contest

I've made my submission for the "Me and my Nokia770" contest.

Previously I thought the deadline was December 15, 2005, and I sent my artwork with GIF images... I realized too late (for that deadline) that gif was not allowed. Then I've figured out that I was wrong, as the deadline really is January 15, 2006, so I've managed to re-work my artwork in order to submit it without breaking the rules, and the artwork itself ;)

PNG format is allowed and is a nice alternative of GIF, unfortunately we can't have animated PNGs: it was a pity I had to trash all the animations I had done, they were the core of my artwork! So, after a lot of work I've succeded in "simulating" animated GIFs with PNG images and some javascript magic, and the total filesize is even lower than before :)

The only difference between the two versions is that in the GIF version we have all the animations already activated, while in the PNG version we change the active frame and it starts its animation, stopping all the others. So the GIF version is globally "more animated" than the PNG one, but this not necessarily a good thing as the PNG version better guides the viewer in putting attention to the right frame :)

By the way, here they are both (choose by yourself the one you prefer: I suggest the PNG):
PNG version (838 KB)
GIF version (959 KB)

(funny, the two filesizes are palyndromes for both the versions! :)

Special thanks to:
Diana, Valentina, Fabio, Vito, Mario.

Update
--------------------------------------

CAN'T BELIEVE IT! I'm not a finalist!!!

The winner has not yet been chosen, you've still time to vote your favourite submission till Monday, January 30th at 3PM CET; the *great* news is that mine can't be found among finalists... So why "GREAT", I hear you're saying?
...he he...
...yes yes yes...
...wait, I'm reading the message here another time, maybe I was just dreaming again...

no dream... IT'S JUST TRUE!... I'm not a finalist because... THEY'RE GIVING ME THE REAL THING AD HONOREM!!!

There are no good words to express my joy, I want to thank all those of you that were voting for me and those that would eventually have voted for me if I had not obtained victory before the time, thanks to Fabio for his Nokia phone with camera we've used for many of the shots when my digital camera went down of charge, thanks to Vito for some of the shots, thanks to Mario for some other shots he had to take with just one hand cause the right one was under repair, thanks to Valentina for having waited us at the table while we were doing some shots near the entrance, thanks to the other Valentina for having helped me in convincing the shy Diana to pose, and finally very special thanks to shy Diana for having posed for me regardless of all that people in the pub looking at us while taking those shots in apnea-mode with my old digital camera (shutter time is extremely long, so both posers and shotters have to be like statues during the shot ^__^;;

But there are some other people I want to thank very much, they deserve the real big thank-you I can give here: for having pleased me with TWO big gifts, both great pieces of technology and a pleasure to use: now, a Nokia770; and from a so long time, a gift that everyone can "win" if just he wants to download it... the OPERA BROWSER! -- *BIG* thanks for it! :)
