Call home from McDonald's and save money!

, , , ...

Rather than spending time and efforts in finding a phone booth to call home, find one of Norway's 67 McDonald's restaurants. The Cloud offers hotspots and you can use Vyke Mobile IP for free just by connecting.

All you need is a Vyke account and install Vyke Mobile IP.

What the heck is wrong with Apple?

, , , ...

Or is it us, the faithful buyers of Apple's expensive laptops and mp3 players? I'm probably not the only one who has been longing to get my hands on a very cool iPhone. But reading today, that Apple threatens to ruin people's phones, I'm getting second thoughts.

Why on earth would they do that?
These people have purchased Apple devices, for their own personal use. Possibly playing songs bought in the iTune Store and viewing images manipulated on a Mac costing top DOLLARS.

I wonder, if Apple had won the Desktop battle, would they be in the same or bigger trouble with giant class acts than Microsoft?

Most of the time it is not the phone that ruins the conversation, but the network (or missing connection that is). Perhaps we are seeing a shift, and for the first time it is the company Apple making the iPhone that ruins the call.

1,000,000 users before years end. Congratulations Vyke!

Telcos are richer than most countries, and if you remember what 20,000 vikings did more than a 1,000 years ago, then think about what 1,000,000 Vykings can do!

My Cell Phone is taking over!

, , , ...

What a great weekend it was. Having a TGIF dinner (actually recommended any day) at Nodee, a fine Sushi and Chinese restaurant in Oslo, is just plain out enjoyable. And if you add a beautiful lady into the equation, then nothing can go wrong.

This is not what I wanted to talk about, really!

It is the cell phone I wanted to credit. Since my MacBook PRO was hospitalized due to a serious battery problem, my weekend looked to be computer less.

Only problem, my sisters birthday and a bunch of football scores to keep tracks of. I guess I could have just called her, but since she lives so fare away we usually talk for some time and skype seems to be the best alternative when we have time to sit down. It's fun with camera and I get to see the kids, and they get to see their uncle. fun fun fun

Oh well, when that doesn't work, and we are both up and about, that is when Vyke PRO or Vyke Lite comes in handy. I can call her for only 13% of the regular cost and also send SMS messages. And it really works. 30min cost no more than US$9.-, which is US$57 cheaper than what I would have been charged (12.59nok/min = 2.22usd/min) by Netcom in Norway.

That is just plain out crazy.

Another crazy thing is sitting inside all day to watch football scores, when you could get them with Opera Mini anywhere. I talked to 3-4 guys about this and they were all happy about learning this. One comment, Opera Mini starts up late, so rather than closing it each time keep it running. That will save you some time, especially since Opera Mini is so quick to load pages. Too bad if you get the wrong impression with the start-up time running.

Want to help foreign students and make some cash?

If you study abroad, then this may be something for you.

Greater the distance, bigger the problem.
Being away from home has its advantages, but it also creates some basic problems to overcome. One of the things is how to stay in connected with friends and family.

One could of course sit in front of the computer and chat all day, but not all foreign students are in posession of unlimited means and besides blabbering away in a computer hall may not be very private nor accepted by other students.

Another way is to provide them with very inexpensive callingcards which can be used with the free to download Vyke Lite, which installs on any Java enabled cell-/mobile phone.

With Vyke Lite staying in contact is simple.
Scratch the card get the PIN code, enter it into Vyke Lite.

Vyke Lite sets up calls between any two phones and lets users send both domestic and international SMS at rates much lower than what domestic operators charge. All Vyke calls are of course cheaper than any international call offered by the operators, and more flexible than any PC related calling.

What's in it for you?
It's simple, you provide the PIN cards from Vyke. You purchase $ or € 10.-/20.-/50.- cards heavily discounted of course and sell them to those who want to keep in contact, those who have no PC's, etc.

You'll be a Vyking and deliver a great service.

Vyke Lite - Start making inexpensive calls in the Middle East

There is no reason to wait. Get Vyke Lite here, or view images in this photo album from vyke on my.opera.com

You can set up a phone call between any two phones when you are traveling with Vyke Lite. Either purchase a local SIM card and use the credit for local calls and Vyke Lite for international ones, or skip buying a local SIM and just set up calls between whoever you call and a locale phone (kiosk, friends, restaurant, etc.).

The easiest way to get your Vyke Lite credits is with the locals. They sell PIN code cards for US$10.-/20.-/50.-

Just enter the code and start calling!

MailTags a bit on the side!

MailTags 2.0.1 for Mail on Mac OS X

I know I have been nagging the dev. team at Opera about it, since my days there. But since I first saw searchable and customizable attributes in BeOS, I thought it was such an interesting and easy to understand addition to e-mails, that I thought anyone would get it.

Well finally, unfortunately not yet in Opera, I found an add-on for Mail in Mac OS X that has been around for a while. It lets you add tags to e-mails and enables these tags to be searched in spotlight. Also not to forget, it lets you add tasks to iCal. Go check MailTags 2.0.1!

Then help me bug the Opera Dev. Team again!

ICE Mobile 3G and Vyke Mobile IP

, , , ...

My latest wifi set-up happened to be in my car. Buying an ICE D-20, which most people use in their sommer- or winter cabins, was a smart move. I just plugged it into my cigarette lighter in my car and up was my new wifi zone.

What for? You may ask. well I'll tell you:
With ICE and Vyke Mobile IP I can call any US/EU/Canada/Norway fix line, US/Canada mobile phone, for only US$ 0.04 a call. Also, if I happend to call anyone else with Vyke Mobile IP, that call is free. And the quality is superb.

You'll also have access to google maps and other usefull sites for traveling, and of course e-mail, news, etc.

I would reccomend this set-up to anyone with teenagers, this will keep them online from Home to anywhere you go in Scandinavia and of course through out the vacation and/or weekend. No problems with MSN, Yahoo, AIM, or what ever.

Another group with use of this set up is truck drivers going accross boarder in Norway, Sweden, Denmark. One ICE network means no costly roaming. Not to forget public transportation companies competing with the railroad.

Go check it out!
