I've decided to post a list of freeware here. I'm always trying to remember where I downloaded a certain program, to tell other people or something, and I can never remember, so this will be my list.

PDF Reader - Foxit - http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/reader_2/down_reader.htm
Much, much faster than Adobe, and works just as well.

CD Burning Software - CDBurnerXP - http://www.cdburnerxp.se/
Has a lot of the same features as Nero, but is completely free.

Web Browser, Email Client, IRC Client, RSS Reader - Opera - http://www.opera.com
I wouldn't be using this site, if I didn't love Opera. Better than Firefox by leaps and bounds.

Instant Messaging - Gaim - http://gaim.sourceforge.net/
Will work with all major IM networks, and has a superior interface to all of them. All of the features of particular networks may not be implemented, but if you're like me, all you want to do is talk.

FTP Client - Filezilla - http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/
Great FTP client. Has all the features of other clients.

IRC Client - XChat - http://www.xchat.org/
If you want a seperate client, xchat is the way to go.

Bittorrent Client - Utorrent - http://www.utorrent.com/
The only bittorrent client you'll ever need.

Photo Editing - The Gimp - http://www.gimp.org/
Almost as good, if not better than , Photoshop.

Video Player - VLC - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
Playes pretty much any video you throw at it. Will also play music.

Music Player, Jukebox style - MusikCube - http://www.musikcube.com/
My preferred music player. Great if you have massive amounts of music like I do.

I have a very simple request for you. Please do not make your programs take the focus away from other programs I am using on their own.
It's getting old.
Really.
Popup system tray notifications = ok
Flashing tasks on the taskbar = ok
Your program suddenly coming to focus when I'm trying to work in another program = not ok.

I've gotten so incredibly used to being with Andrea every weekend, that it's going to be very very odd not having her here this weekend.
I imagine the weekend will be filled with beer, coffee, and World of Warcraft.

I have to go get fitted for my tux for my brother's wedding on Saturday. We are getting zoot tux's and wearing Dr. Marten wingtips. We're going to look awesome.

There's nothing like a DNA quote for a post title. It holds very true to my life right now though. If you told me even six months ago that my life would be looking like it is, I'd tell you you were crazy. Things are better than they've ever been. I'm close to buying a house. I've got the most awesome girlfriend ever. For once, things feel like they're going my way.

Here's to the future, and how awesome it's going to be.


Other current random thoughts:

  1. 1. World of Warcraft is incredibly awesome, and very much like digital crack.
  2. 2. I'm getting a new video card for Christmas from my parents. This one to be exact. I can't wait.
  3. 3. I think I need to buy some more ram for my pc. 512mb just doesn't seem to be cutting it anymore. Decent pc3200 is going pretty cheap these days, thankfully.
  4. 4. Opera 8.5 for Series 60 is great. It just keeps getting better and better.
  5. 5. WOXY is great. The new stereo streams sound amazing.


Fonts and stuff

I've been using Linux on and off for almost as long as I've been using Opera. For a long time, font rendering in X was rather flaky, but lately I've been absolutely amazed at how fantastic the font rendering has become. Going between a Win2k box at work, and my Ubuntu box at home just kills me.
The font rendering in windows is just absolutely abysmal.

Score another one for Linux.
