What once was a popular 1970's television show, has now been brought to the big screen in a remake starring Will Ferrell. Land of the Lost has many aspect that are familiar to fans of the television show, however with Will Ferrell portraying Dr. Rick Marshall, a scientist who believe in time travel, he gives the humor and high jinks a whole new direction.

He isn't the most lovable character and because most people in the field don't like him and think some of his time travel ideas are crazy, he gets laughed out of the field and becomes a middle school science teacher. One person, Holly, played by Ana Freil, believes in Dr. Marshall's work and vision and encourages Dr. Marshall to continue his work.

One night Dr. Marshall and Holly decide to test his time travel device in cave that was located in the desert. This cave is a tourist attraction that is run a fireworks salesman named Will, played by Danny McBride. When the device is switched on all three of them are hurled into another time dimension where they are greeted by odd insect forms, lizard and monkey people, and a large man eating dinosaur. This large man eating dinosaur and his hatred of Dr. Marshall make for one of the funniest running gags in the film.

After the group arrives they meet a monkey person, by the name of Chaka that assists the group in finding their lost time travel device. The group will need this device in order to return home, however finding it turns out to be a more difficult task them expected. During their search they are faced with multiple hazardous situations.

Although this film was not a box office smash, or even Will Ferrell's best work, it does have many fun and entertaining qualities. Chaka and the character Will, give us some of the best laughs in the movie, and Ferrell gives us his best adolescent grown up character. There are many great special effect and CGI shows this new world well. Although the lizard people tend to look a little off, it is meant to be that way to represent the classic television show. The CD comes with a few extras, which are funny thanks to the touch of Will Farrell. This is a PG-13 film and not intended for younger viewers due to sexual references and language.
