Not really a catsuit

, ,

I already designed very fashionable shoes two weeks ago. I did that after I saw a fashion show of Alexander McQueen, which had some ridiculous shoes in it. So I thought: why should I not be able to think of something completely ridiculous, yet cool looking. So I did.

Anyway in that blog post somehow in the comments catsuits were mentioned, so I thought: hey, I already design shoes (I guess I have to be gay now p: ), why not try something else, like a catsuit. So some thoughts crossed my mind and I ended up with something I thought would be worth putting on paper. While drawing it it evolved in something not so much a catsuit anymore, but hey who cares? I don't.

I better stop talking and show you what I came up with, right? The quality of the picture isn't really very good. I made a picture of the sketch and it is actually to dark to get a good result. I try to get a better snap sometime soon!

design sketch of a 'Catsuit' or at least some piece of clothing. Pencil on paper.

For those who wonder how to get into this thing. There is a zipper on the back of the suit (on the light brown line) that goes from the bow all the way up to the collar. The boots have buttons on the inner leg, which are light brown.
I guess that should work right?

designing shoes

, ,

Yesterday I posted about a fashion show of Alexander McQueen which had awesome and ridiculous shoes in it. And today it made me think if he can get away with these designs, then I can design shoes myself too!

Since I hadn't much to do, I grabbed myself a piece of paper and sketch a few ideas, which resulted in this concept.

I actually thought it was a pretty cool idea so I worked it out a little bit more. I'm not to happy about the final drawing, but I think you'll get a good idea how those shoes are suppose to be like.

So now I'm looking for volunteers to actually make the shoe and someone who is willing to wear them too! Anyone?

They may also going to be produced in red and orange and perhaps even bright pink and green.
O, and did I mention I'm also looking for investors to finance the branding and distribution of the new Jekav shoe-line!

Creative stuff

, , , ...

I love browsing the internet, because you stumble upon all kinds of creative things. Browsing one of several blogs I visit on a regular basis, I found a nice Flickr group Cool Dudes and they sure are cool! Of course Lego always get me warm inside p:, but look at those fellows, aren't they amazing?

I like Pulp Fiction very much too, so that second image is an absolute winner!

The same blog brought a fashion show of Alexander McQueen to my attention. Loyal readers may know I kind of like fashion shows, I think they can be really creative and quite impressive shows to watch. Well this one sure was creative, its the spring 2010 collection. Of course these are museum only pieces, because there is no way these are going to be used as clothing

Look at those shoes, aren't they magnificent? :D

Here is the show (in two parts) if you would like to check it out:

I kind of feel sorry for the girls, they have to walk an enormously long runway on those shoes. It must have been hell

Fashion, the downside

In my previous post I talked about the positive things of fashion shows. I feel the need to talk about the downside as well, because it's not all as great as it may look at fist sight.

Fashion shows is all about an artistic expression of a designer. Clothes are worn by people, and those people wearing the clothes on the runway are inevitably part of the total image. When a designer will design clothes he also selects someone to wear these clothes, someone that fits his/her image, the creative vision of the design.
Somehow most designers feel that a tall slim girl is ideal. If you look at the shape of a person on a sketch of a fashion designer, you will see this is a none existing profile of a human. See this image of Versace where you can see an already slim model is twice the size of the sketched girl.

Fashion designers sometimes seems to forget they are designing clothes for people, you can't design the people too! Still they are nearly all searching for extreme slim girls, which results in unhealthy conditions for the models. You want to keep your job, maybe even the best, so you need to be slim. You'll have to be very strong mentally not to care about it to much as a model. Many will suffer some level of anorexia.
I would say this is the fold of the designers, why would they want to draw such an extremely slim person? My opinion is it isn't even beautiful. Design clothes for real people!

I saw the image of a girl on the site of Prada, I included on the right. She really doesn't look healthy to me! I don't understand why they continue to use girls like this in their shows, it makes a statement that extreme (and unhealthy) slim is beauty. Not only models will try to get as slim as possible, real life persons may also trick themselves when they see these images. They might think they are fat when they are perfectly fine.

I hope fashion designers will starting to accept they shouldn't use models like this. It's morally incorrect, and not even beautiful neither! Much better to use models with a little bit more flesh, like Laetitia Casta, still slim, but in a healthy way and with all the female shapes much more attractive too!

(I always try to find an excuse to include an image of her! :D )

Another bad thing is the arrogant attitude of the fashion world that they know whats beautiful, and we have to agree with them. They will tell the world what to wear. I always get so disgusted about the way some magazine are talking about other peoples clothes. Telling people they wear ridiculous clothes, old fashioned wrong colours, cheap designs, tasteless dresses, etc, etc.
Telling you you should run to the shop to spend you're entire month income on the newest fashion. It seems there are so few people in the fashion world that value the person inside. Look to their character and accept a different opinion. Not everyone wants to walk in a pink shirt shouting out your presence. Some people just want to blend in, want ordinary clothes because they feel better in it. Some people just don't care and want to go for the cheapest.

The problem is that people without a strong self-awareness, will easily be unwanted influenced by all this arrogant talk.

Fashion should be more about people, then the real beauty reveals itself!

Let me conclude with some male images, to prevent being like a sexist. p: I appreciate all female readers very much too, so these are for you! I hope you like them

Fashion shows

, ,

Years ago I thought fashion shows were ridiculous and watching them could only make me laugh at all those silly designs. But since some time I started to appreciate watching fashion shows. I have to admit, first of all I like it because of the ladies walking on the catwalk. The Victoria's Secret fashion show makes a excellent watch to all the top models! If you have forty minutes of spare time, I could recommend to fill it watching the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2008! (great quality)

Anyway nowadays I can appreciate fashion shows for more reasons than just the girls. I love many creative designs, I rather see it as a piece of art then a piece of cloth. Nonetheless the designs can be useful to lead to real life cloth designs, they wouldn't been seen on the streets like this.
Not a lot of people will walk the streets in this design by Victor and Rolf!

But it is a nice piece of art! It's creative and beautiful.

And then there is the shows itself. The catwalk is often nicely designed. It's has to be creative along with the clothes. The music often is nice too. It has to have this good rhythm to walk on. And if all that is not enough, there can be something special too. I saw some great projection on some kind of transparent layer, which gave a very cool effect as if things were flying through the catwalk, in the Diesel ‘Liquid Space’ Holographic Fashion Show (unfortunately not the best quality)

I don't think the clothes were some much in the attention in Diesel's show. perhaps they weren't so great and they tried to cover that by focusing on the visuals :D

A show I really like very much is the Versace Fall 2006 show. It has all the good ingredients, nice cloths, nice catwalk design, nice music, nice camera work, it all fits, it all works. And above all at 5:10 this girl (Inguna Butane):

Watch the Versace show at Ryoni.com (this site has more nice video's btw  ).
