Woman’s world cannot exist without perfumes. This is her everpresent accessory as fragrant trail symbolizes aura of femininity, seduction and charm. Unbelievable Coco Chanel said that perfume is the same thing as clothes and was sure that women who do not wear perfume do not have future. Woman’s passions can change, but the passion for perfumes is everlasting. Every woman dreams about having dozens of desired bottles with different fragrances – for different situations, different seasons, moods and time. Certainly, high quality perfume is expensive. Unfortunately, lately there have appeared too many fakes on the perfume market. And high price, alas, is not a guarantee of quality anymore.
The best way to check if the perfume is genuine is to ask a shop-assistant to show you certificate of quality, but not always there is a possibility to do that. Here are some hints that will help you to distinguish a fake perfume from a genuine one.
Wrapping. Fakes usually have illegible letters. Also, the box should be durable and made of high quality paper or carton. Thin cellophane tightly covers the box, there should be no signs of glue. Although, some manufacturers refused using cellophane and prefer creating bottles with unique designs. Complicated and expensive bottles are a guarantee of authenticity as they are hard to fake.
Bar code of French perfumes starts with 3. Here are code bars of some other countries: Great Britain – 50, Germany – 400-440, Spain – 84, Italy – 80-83, France – 30-37, Canada – 00-09.
Bottle. Bottles of authentic perfumes are made of pure and smooth glass. Genuine perfume is never closed with a metal cover – contact with metal can spoil the perfume. Also, if you see that the bottle dangles in the box, be sure you are holding a fake. The perfume itself must be clear, without sediment and dimness. Usually color of perfume varies from pale yellow to dark-yellow. Sometimes colorants allow achieving green pink or violet tints. If you see branded perfume that has bright red or blue color, be sure this is a fake.
Price. Unfortunately, high quality fakes are very widespread today. Even if you buy a perfume in a specialized store, it doesn’t guarantee you are given an authentic product. Never buy perfumes in department of cosmetics and bijouterie. Pay attention to price. If it looks too attractive, most likely this is a fake.
Perfume stability. Authentic perfumes do not lose their fragrance for quite a long time. The most
expensive product is parfum. It contains 30-40% of aroma oils that’s have the strongest and the most concentrated fragrance. Parfum is used in the evening at festive occasions. 1-2 drops of parfum is enough. High quality parfum doesn’t lose its fragrance for 6-9 hours.
At the daytime eau de parfum is usually used. It has almost the same fragrance as parfum, but less concentrated. Fragrance lasts about 4-5 hours.
The less stable is eau de toilette. The concentration of essential oil in eau de toilette is only 3-8%, so it needs every 2-3 hours renewal. This is a perfect option for summer heat, office and other situations when strong and obtrusive fragrance is not appropriate.
