I have been reading excerpts from various lecture notes, mostly about restricted and
induced representations
. As I understand it now it is a method for constructing representations by starting from a simpler one from a subgroup. I suppose it's important enough not to skip it. Z4x|Z4 is still on my mind. I will return to the exercise tomorrow. I have to understand all the characters of this group before I continue. I can't feel comfortable before it is done. How about the book? Well, a first read of a mathematics book can't be more than a quick scan, touching things, skipping stuff which is too complex for the moment. I am in a first read alright. Lecture 3. paragraph 3.3. "Induced Representations".
