Schur's Lemma

The basic problem of Representation Theory is the classification of all representations of a given group G, up to isomorphism. But what about today?
Schur's Lemma
( and
here 1
, and
here 2
). Lecture 1 in the book consists of 9 pages. The same topics can be found in
David Towers 1
, he takes 40+ pages. I have been reading ahead a bit. So far it has been ploughing through a thick layer of definitions but cool, interesting exercises are close by: the construction of Character Tables of groups. That's lecture 2 stuff in the book. It wouldn't be the first time that I move ahead to a next chapter without a full understanding of what has been said sofar. Going through a book in several rounds has it's advantages. For now I have to remember that a representation is a direct sum of irreducible representations. I really should do exercises for a while. Sofar.
