The secret of HIV/AIDS counselling is a type of psychologic application which is to be explored in little detail in this text. The blog may look at a real life situation and extract the subliminal truth that most are blind-eye to.
But as always, I think is imperative for the reader to have a mutual understanding of the definition of the terms that are to be used, most importantly, to understand the message that the text tries to convey.
Defining couselling
Although you'd find many definitions of counselling, they are common in one aspect or another. I chose this definition for mainly convenience and because I have a nice book on counselling an inch away.
Counselling is a facilitative process in which the cousellor, working within the framework of a special helping relationship, uses specific skills to assist clients to develop self knowledge, emotional acceptance, emotional growth, and personal resources

This is a good definition I'd say. Take note of the definition's portion "...to assist clients to develop self knowledge, emotional acceptance, emotional growth, etc.".
One of the aims of counselling is to help and empower clients so that they become more effective self-helpers in their everyday lives (Van Dyk, 2008).
Take note of the soothing words used in the definitions and aims. Apart from conveying a literary meaning, they share an undectectable connotation which I will not directly make obvious.
The psychology
During Freud's years of work, he also discovered many interesting aspects of the unconcious mind, such as the implicit causes of internal tension. Wait, I don't want to bore you, I take you are familiar with Freud's psychoanalytic ideologies. It is the developments from his work that defense machanisms are based. Thankfully, defense machanisms are a good way of dealing with anxiety.
These machanisms include projection, sublimation, intellectualization, and so forth. And it is all thanks to Freud that we are aware of them now.
Wait a second, do not be mislead, I am no longer talking about Sigmund Freud but Annah Freud. Before I waste your time let's zoom in.
Zooming in
Let's zoom in on the defense machanism; intellectualization.
Intellectualization works to reduce anxiety by thinking about events in a cold, clinical way. This defense machanism allows us to avoid thinking about the stressful, emotional aspect of the situation and instead focus only on the intellectual component.
For example, a person who has just been diagnosed with a terminal illness might focus on learning everything about the desease in order to avoid distress and remain distant from the reality of the situation. In this case, to remain distant from the reality of HIV/AIDS.
But not everyone learns everything about HIV/AIDS!
Exactly, this is where HIV/AIDS counselling steps in.

By learning everything about HIV or by being counselled on HIV, you only employ your focus on the intellectual component. Hence, avoiding the reality to in turn, avoid HIV anxiety. But the cousellor helps you to do that.
So, to help and empower clients so that they become more effective self-helpers in their everyday lives, means to help lazy people who cannot research, restrict all of their energy to the intellectual component of the reality of HIV situation they may be faced with.
Conclusion
Like I had made obvious before, it was not my interest to go into greater detail on the matter because it may make certain people angry, excuse my political correctness, I don't want this to affect my political connect, but a little detail to reveal the truth.
Next time when you go for counselling, ask yourself whether you are going to be counselled for sure or conditioned to think in a particular way.
