Blog Action Day

After watching the debate between the candidates I discovered "Blog Action Day". Poverty, something I know alot about, I have to say something.
Poverty is one of the major contributors to the struggles of a large class of citizens in the United States. Hunger, fatigue, a sense of hopelessness acts as weights on the fight to escape this condition. As a member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, I have long been a volunteer in communities in which I have lived in working with underpriveledge children. It's is a challenge working with alot of them, making them realize that they too can escape living conditions not unlike what I and others have lived under. One of the keys is to stress education.
Personally, this was THE key for me. A college education opened up the world to me, instilling a sense that I could compete on many levels with anybody in the world.
In an earlier post I referenced attending the funeral of my 16 year old cousin's son. At his funeral, there had to be a least 100 of his friends/peers dressed in black pants, shirts, bandannas, backwards baseball caps, all showing there last respect and going through the grieving process. I wondered how many of them will escape the poverty cycle, or end up being in the front of the funeral home with their family greiving over them? Only time will tell.
