Bamboo Sheet

Bamboo Sheet

Bamboo sheets are produced from bamboo fabric, which exhibits superior characteristics not found in cotton or silk and is often compared to product advancements such as the VHS to the DVD. As with the VHS/DVD switch, people are reluctant to get rid of the old standard and replace it with new technology--in this case bamboo. Once they finally break down and purchase bamboo products, though, it quickly becomes clear that it is a far superior product. In the case of bamboo sheets for example, the fabric exhibits superior characteristics such Bamboo Sheet as its absorption and wicking abilities.

It is said that bamboo is two to three times more absorbent than cotton. Also, wicking tests have shown that this fabric can wick moisture at a significantly faster rate than many synthetic fabrics used in athletic clothing.

The wicking component of bamboo was Bamboo particularly interesting to the U.S. military in its search for a more effective bandage for wounds in the field. They decided to test bamboo by commissioning a textile expert to develop a revolutionary bandage. After testing other fabrics as well, bamboo was chosen as the clear winner for its exceptional absorption and wicking abilities.

Today, the U.S. military is purchasing the bandage for use in the field. The company has also patented the bandage; and its distribution into medical facilities is eminent.

One might ask, what does this study have to do with bamboo bed sheets? The uncanny ability of the fabric to absorb and wick moisture also results in thermal regulating properties, which provides a cool, dry sleeping surface. People who complain of night sweats have experienced a significant difference when sleeping on organic bamboo sheets as compared with cotton sheets.

Another area where this wonderful, organic fabric sets itself apart from traditional bedding is its antibacterial properties. It is well known that bamboo--in it's natural state--doesn't require pesticides or herbicides. The reason for this is that it has natural antibacterial properties, which protect it from insects and pathogens.

In other tests done by Japanese textile companies, it was found that bamboo fabric retains its remarkable antibacterial properties post-production as well as in its natural state. The condensed version of the results is as follows:

A bacterial strain (staphylococcus aureous) was placed on the fabric. After a period of 24 hours, the live bacteria were counted, and the results showed that the fabric exhibited a 99.8% antibacterial kill rate.
