the one about mother's day

Happy Mother's Day to all who apply! Anyway, this year for Mother's Day, I was expecting my grandmother and aunt at the house for Mother's Day lunch and stuff, so I called my Mom like a good son should... :) I felt bad a little for not getting to in see her in person, 30 minutes away by car (23 how I drive, I checked!) but she assured of she wouldn't be home, so anyway... Today after work I went and bought her favorite candy bar for her and took it over to wish her a good day (yesterday?). She is on a diet, and I knew this, but I got her to eat half of it anyway. Victory! And so, that's the one about my mother's special day.

the one about the kitten

So, we have a stray cat that lives under the house... We don't really feed it, i guess someone does because it doesn't look starving. Anyway, this cat recently had kittens (color me surprised) and my Uncle wanted to catch one for his mom, my grandmother. We saw the cat carrying a kitten around, and i chased it down to get the kitten... It dropped the package and i scooped it up, put it in a box, and fed it and we called my grandmother. It turns out after a night of thinking about it, she didn't want a kitten, so the next day we let it go. I did get one picture of the nameless (unwanted) kitten... And thats the story of the stray kitten!

the one about camping

So my parents call me up one day and tell me they are planning on going camping, on the weekend of May 2-3, 2009, at Lake Somerville, TX, Do I Want To Go? I say Yes!!! So like I said, I have plans to go camping at Lake Somerville that weekend. We plan to leave Friday afternoon...my mom took a deposition that morning though, and they want it "rushed" aka ASAP! They work on finishing that up the rest of the day, and we do not leave until Saturday morning. They want to go mainly to go mountain back riding, and have a fire... sounds fun, no? We spend an hour or so Saturday morning packing and securing the bikes (one for me too) and finally take off. Change of plans, we are going to Huntsville State Park instead of Somerville, no problem though! On the way up there, we realize we forgot the Fishing poles, and the PILLOWS. Geez... we stop at Target on the way for pillows, and keep driving. 11:30 or something like that we arrive, get a camping spot, and start setting up the tent and stuff, and as soon as everything's unpacked enough they want to immediately go bike riding (because they've lost half a day, we were supposed to leave Friday afternoon right?). I hop on a bike and go with them, it is up and down and up and down these narrow dirt trails with roots everywhere, some sand in places...I guess I last about 2 miles out of 7, either way when my chest was about to explode and my legs didn't work anymore I told them I was going back to camp. I get there and just have time to change my sweaty shirt, I don't even get to lay down before my Grandparents show up to hang out and do the camping out food thing, you know, start a fire with some charcoal and put some burgers on that grill. We have some marshmallows too...they leave eventually, too soon for me, and we stay up and have some more marshmallows and eventually go to bed. 6:30 AM Sunday (my brother's birthday too!) the sky opens up and it rains, and rains, and even rains inside the tent! ...so we pack up everything else we didn't pack the night before, in case of rain, and by 8 AM we are gone! We stop by Denny's on the way home for breakfast (too bad, toast and bacon and eggs over an open flame is the only way to have a camping breakfast, leave the charcoal at home for that) and anyway, that's about all there is to the camping trip. We end up going to see X-Men Origins: Wolverine to make up for some of the fun mountain biking they didn't get to do, and that about wraps up that particular weekend!

the one about the san bernard river

This is where our land hits the San Bernard. The river is higher than normal in this pic due to massively heavy downpours 2 and 3 days before this pic! It took a week to get close to the normal water line, and longer for the ground to get hard enough to walk on close to the river.
