I haven't been here on the OC very much in over a year. Life ... intervened ... what can I say? But there is one friend who I have here whom I met on the OC who has been my close friend, confidant and business partner for the last three-plus years. His friendship and support have never wavered. It's a testament to the quality of folks here at the OC that our friendship has endured.
And this past Spring a dream of ours was finally realized. He was able to come to the U.S. for a nice long visit (although not long enough, if you were to ask me!). It was great finally meeting my dearest friend in person. His energy and vibrance was something I was not prepared for. You *can* know someone fairly well online, but until you meet them in person, you just cannot get the whole effect.
Those two weeks that my friends spent here will be among the best memories I will ever have. There are places in my city that I see through new eyes thanks to them, whether it's a new restaurant, the beach at Galveston or the parking lot of a mall.
To my two friends I say, please hurry back! To all of you, please enjoy the few photos I managed to shoot during this whirlwind visit!
Come visit me at my WordPress blog. I tried to hang in there with the OC blog, but there are just too many limitations. Cya around. Play in the archives if you get bored, but best thing is to hit the link below! Ciao!
I've been listening to Alecia Moore (a/k/a P!nk) ever since she first arrived on the scene. I've always loved her edgy voice. Here she is in a great tribute to Janis Joplin.
And listening to Joss Stone also reminds me a bit of Janis. Now, I could have taken the easy way out and posted "Piece of My Heart," the duet she did with Melissa Etheridge. But I much prefer this song for its polish. See for yourself.
What you say? Wasn't Easter last month? Well it was unless you are an Orthodox Christian. For them, Easter falls on April 27 this year. And they celebrate Easter with a wonderful tradition of brightly colored eggs. No Easter bunny, no garish green grass. These creations are drop dead gorgeous. To all my Serbian friends (they know who they are), I wish you a happy Easter!
If men loved power tools before... they're gonna love them even more now. The biggest departure from reality in this video, besides the models, is the fact that the amount of noise these tools generate can be deafening! Enjoy!
This is an example of a posting that was created on Monday morning which I don't plan to release until Tuesday night. The beauty of Live Writer.
Update: Well, maybe not. Seems this feature of WLW doesn't play nice with OC blogs; the post is NOT held in queue for later. Well, at least the Insert Live Map plugin works!
Found this ladybug on my garage door the other morning. I think the texture of the old paint and wood on the door is interesting. So is the bug. I hope she brings us good luck.
Because I have so many blogsscattered all over the Internet, it is convenient to manage them all in one place when possible. That's why I use a program called Zempt to post to all my Movable Type and WordPress blogs. I tried to configure my Opera blog to use Zempt but it doesn't have the required API.
Enter Windows Live Writer. This is my first Opera post using WLW so we'll see how it goes.
Mad props to Opera user Gary Denness for helping me figure out how to set up Windows Live Writer (WLW) to work with the Opera Blog Community. I'm now going to push the envelope (and my luck) and try to use some of the WLW plugins available.
WLW Setup (thanks again, Gary!): Under blog URL, type http://my.opera.com/yourusername/blog/ then choose MetaBlog API and for that URL, type http://my.opera.com/yourusername/blog/api. That should do it. WLW will then find all your personal tags. I'm not sure I can upload a picture to Opera with WLW but I may try that next as I've downloaded a cool Polaroid plugin that I'm dying to use. :-)
Gotchas: Well, it behaves a bit oddly. When you publish from WLW, and go to view your newly-published post, you see raw codes next to each paragraph. But if you just hit the Edit button in Opera and repost it, those go away. Weird. Also, Opera's API doesn't support categories/tags, so you do have to go back in and edit those if you want them. Other than that, seems pretty cool so far. I haven't tested the posts in the future but that might be something nice to do. To sit down and create a few posts, and then set them for different days. Might keep this blog from gathering too much web lint.
