What Was She Thinking?!

Someone hold my drink while I climb down off my soapbox.

Destiny Is a Whore...

, , , ,

Or so goes the song Tuzna Pesma [Sad Song] by Serbian duo Neverne Bebe. Someone was kind enough to translate the lyrics from Serbian to English and upload the song to YouTube. Enjoy!

And here are the original lyrics, in Serbian, for those playing at home.

Rec, jedna i kraj
bol, gospodski sjaj
gazila bih duboku reku
samo da nadjem zvezdu neku
koja na tebe potseca

Zid,izmedju nas
noc, pruza mi spas
htela bih da ti zovem ime
plakala bih al' nemam s kime
ubila bih i dosta s time
znaj, ipak znaj da

Tuzna pesma na sto nacina
svetom putuje
stara slika naseg vremena
jos uvek tuguje
a kisna jutra opet pocinju
otkad sam otisla
smejem se a suze naviru
kurva sudbina

Zid,izmedju nas...

I have been privileged to have access to a vast amount of Serbian and Croatian music, some traditional and some contemporary. I love just about all of it, but my favorites are Gibonni, Zdravko Colic, Prljavo Kazaliste, Film and Neverne Bebe.

A MillionStart your week out right!

I've played eastern european music in my youth, the band was called Sandansko, take a look:

:headbang:

I remember the tunes much more masculine and uptempo, in strange measures like 11/8 and 7/8... but of course they also had ballads... Sigeunerweisen comes to mind.

Hm, listening to this song doesn't remind me of the folk music of balcan at all, more like a sentimental pop version of a ballad. You should listen to the real stuff, it is so full of life and energy and strange rythms!

This group I liken to the "Donny and Marie" of Serbian pop. But yes, I've heard quite a bit of folk music. In fact, David, I downloaded a bunch of it from Usenet recently, from all countries, including Denmark. And I plan to, when I get time, upload a sampling of it for you all to enjoy.

Nice, but use norwegian, or swedish, danish is boring.

Strange for me is that someone from USA knows serbian music. I like Gibonni  His music is really positive and relaxing.
