Bagged and Tagged

, ,

My friend across the pond, Elke a/k/a Sternchen, tagged me for a meme. This is a great one for people (like me) who love to read. To the five of you whom I've now tagged, here's what you do:

Pick up the book you are reading. Turn to page 123 and post on your blog the fifth paragraph. [My book doesn't have five paragraphs on page 123 so I posted the last paragraph on the page; I hope that's not cheating!] Then post that text and the book title and author on your blog! Finally (this is the most important part!), tag five others and send a personal message to those people.

Here's mine, from To Kill a Nation: The Attack on Yugoslavia, by Michael J. Parenti:

[Captain Martin de la Hoz] concluded: 'They are destroying the country, bombing it with novel weapons, toxic nerve gases, surface mines dropped with parachute, bombs containing uranium, black napalm, sterilization chemicals, sprayings to poison the crops, and weapons of which even we still do not know anything. The North Americans are committing there one of the biggest barbarities that can be committed against humanity.'

So now I'm gonna pass the baton to five of my peeps:

  • Sheila, a buddy and co-worker who always has her nose in a book!
  • David who despite his busy schedule not only is an avid reader, but is himself a published author.
  • Rori.
  • Mike.
  • Radmila.

Go On Over to the Blogathon Blog...

,

There's nothing to see here .. move along. Mkay?

Trisha (a/k/a Watts-Her-Face) is asleep now and I've started my shift of the 2006 Blogathon. So go on over and keep me company, will you? Right now, I'm downstairs on the laptop but so that there will be no temptation to migrate to the nice soothing fresh made bed, I will probably head upstairs to the loft where my desktop is. And there ain't nothing up there but a secretarial chair and hardwood floors. Not likely to sneak any zzzzz's there, huh?

You're still here? Go! Shoo. Scram. Gah.

Blogathon 2006

, , ,

Come on folks. The Blogathon has already started for most of the world, but there is an alternate schedule for those observing the Jewish sabbat. So.. there's still time to open those wallets, raid your sofa cushions, scour the floorboards of your car and grab that coffee can from the top shelf in the garage. Trisha and I will be blogging starting at midnight (her) or 11:00PM (me) tonight, for 24 hours, through midnight/11:00PM Sunday night, all to benefit the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation. So .. sponsor us!. Carry on.

2 Girls...24 Hours...Countless Victims

, , ,

Hey everybody, I'm gearing up for the 2006 Blog-a-thon coming up in a couple of weeks. It's been a while since I participated as a blogger, but I remember how much fun it was and how satisfying it is to see my blogged-for charity get a little money. Here are the specifics:

Date: July 29, 2006, 9PM EDT to July 30, 2006, 9PM EDT, 24 fun filled hours, boys and girls!
Blogging Partner: Trisha Watts at BabyGotBlog.com
Charity we are blogging for: United Cerebral Palsy
What you can do to help: Sponsor Us, Dammit!. Oh, and dropping in occasionally to slap us back to life and help keep us awake and blogging would be appreciated!

Like the banner? It was created by my web design partner, Ivan Minic. Thanks Ivan, and yes, I guess we believe you when you say you could find NO OTHER image but that one of the breasts spilling out to there and back for our banner. Gah! Men! :-)

Birthday Wishes for my Dearest Friend!

, ,

On Sunday, May 28, 2006, Ivan a/k/a SerbianFighter, my friend and partner in crime and web design, is celebrating his...

21st Birthday!
21st Birthday!

Why don't you help him celebrate by having some virtual (psst! ladies, it's calorie-free!) birthday cake...

Happy birthday, Ivan!

Note that there are all kinds of surprises hidden here so take your mouse for a walk, mkay?

Adriana will now recite a few birthday factoids for you. (Yeah, I know you MEN are paying close attention to the writing there, huh?!)

Adriana says...

And help him open some of his presents...

Click for a birthday song! Click for a lap dance from Alyssa Milano

Then why don't you click below to give the birthday boy a nice birthday kiss!

Calling All Opera Community Bloggers

, , , ...

I've decided to give a try to the concept of blog carnivals here in the OC. I've set up a group forum so head on over, and sign up for the carnival(s) of your choice. And if you want to volunteer to host a carnival, don't forget to sign up for that too.

Opera Blog Carnival (Forum)

The key to a blog carnival is resurrecting the best of the best -- all your great posts that are now unappreciated because they've rolled off the front page. The older the post, the better. The first carnival, The Carnival of Love, kicks off next Friday evening, March31. Deadline for submitting your blog entries is 9PM Central Standard Time Thursday, March 30!

What Do Girls Want? Man Candy, That's What!

And there's plenty of it here right under your own discerning noses, ladies. I've chosen a baker's dozen for your drooling pleasure. Along with snippets from their blogs. Because, just as men don't buy Playboy for the photos, but rather, for the articles {{rolls eyes}}, I certainly don't expect you to ogle the photos and not do some in-depth reading. Nosiree. There's something for everyone, young and old alike. There's even a father and son team here. See if you can figure out who they are!

In no particular order:

Brian works for Opera, but lists his occupation as EvilDoer. While he doesn't usually fill out online memes, he made an exception for a friend.
Opera has balls...lots of them. We got a big box of these stress-balls to distribute to all our Opera friends.
Todd's Chewy Food blog bills itself as your daily dose of cool software. Indeed, he's even got a way for you to have your cake and eat it too. Make IE behave like Opera, for those times when you absolutely, positively gotta use IE. Now, that is sick and twisted, Todd!
Daniel is from Brasil and participated in Opera's recent Nokia contest. He also won an Opera T-Shirt.
Now I believe when they say Opera is fast, this shirt came all the way from Norway to Brazil in less than a week!
David is a published author, songwriter, teacher and musician.[1] And he's single-handedly to blame for the fact that you are even reading this right now! Don't take the below at face value. Go read the post!
"...not so good in bed, better against the wall...".
Elmar hails from Munich. His is mostly a music blog and he's got a wide range of musical tastes, from classical to avante-garde. And if you ever find yourself there, be sure to stop and have a coffee. It comes highly recommended.
As soon as you trust yourself, you will know how to live!
Henrik works for Opera and lives in Japan. All of his blog posts are in Japanese, but he's got some great photo albums if you want to take an armchair tour of that gorgeous country. Henrick admits to using no hardware other than a screwdriver.
Hope for the best!
Jonathan is Remastering the Art of Me. He's in what Sam Jackson's Pulp Fiction character would call a "transitional period." He's also the web master for this Danish non-profit.
I'm planning the greatest of escapes!
Leif is a retired teacher of mathematics and physics. He currently lives in the Phillipines. He isn't blogging right now but he's got some great photo albums. Go take a peek!
We should all be concerned about the future because we will have to spend the rest of our lives there.
Roger lives in Mexico. He's in the music industry[1] so he gets exposed to a lot of new talent. He blogs in both English and Spanish. And every once in awhile, if you are lucky, Roger will post a musical composition of his own on his blog.
Some times you are ready, some times not and some times you're done.
If you've been on the Opera Forums at all, then you know who Ivan is. He's got a lot of talent, creating all kind of graphic elements to promote the Opera browser. (Why he's not on their payroll is as big a mystery to me as what happened to Jimmy Hoffa.) Ivan is also behind the Serbian forum Burek.co.yu.
Many projects behind me... but the one above is closest to my heart.
Thomas lives in Aarhus, Denmark. He's a musician.[1] He recently discovered something really important:
Sadly, i have to conclude that having access to a computer once or twice a week, is not enough for running a blog.
Tomas hails from Slovakia and he's looking to meet people from all over the world. Tomas must be a real man because only a real man would be comfortable admitting he sat through (and actually enjoyed) Nottinghill. (Or maybe he just wanted to ogle Julia Roberts!) And Tomas is a car nut! And Tomas bears an amazing resemblace to actor Ethan Hawke, don't you think?
Vital is a web developer from Russia. While he hasn't posted too much to his blog, what he does have there is something you can sink your teeth into, such as this post about a new Weather widget. Vital has been a fan of the Opera browser since he was running a 486 computer! (That's a long time, Vital!)

[1] Is it some kind of kinky coincidence that so many good looking men are musicians? Does this anomaly exist just to drive women crazy? (Take it from one who's had a couple of dangerous liaisons with musically inclined men.) [Back to top.]

What's In a Name?

, ,

It's important to get the name right. Take, for example, this week's member of the week. It's Ramunas. He's had to correct people before. So be sure you get it right next time. While there might be many named Ramunas, there can be only one Ramunas.

Accept no substitutes.
