Opera Blogging With Windows Live Writer

,

Because I have so many blogs scattered all over the Internet, it is convenient to manage them all in one place when possible. That's why I use a program called Zempt to post to all my Movable Type and WordPress blogs. I tried to configure my Opera blog to use Zempt but it doesn't have the required API.

Enter Windows Live Writer. This is my first Opera post using WLW so we'll see how it goes.

Mad props to Opera user Gary Denness for helping me figure out how to set up Windows Live Writer (WLW) to work with the Opera Blog Community. I'm now going to push the envelope (and my luck) and try to use some of the WLW plugins available.

In My Ears: http://www.last.fm/music/Legende/ > A sad znam

WLW Setup (thanks again, Gary!): Under blog URL, type http://my.opera.com/yourusername/blog/ then choose MetaBlog API and for that URL, type http://my.opera.com/yourusername/blog/api. That should do it. WLW will then find all your personal tags. I'm not sure I can upload a picture to Opera with WLW but I may try that next as I've downloaded a cool Polaroid plugin that I'm dying to use. :-)

Gotchas: Well, it behaves a bit oddly. When you publish from WLW, and go to view your newly-published post, you see raw codes next to each paragraph. But if you just hit the Edit button in Opera and repost it, those go away. Weird. Also, Opera's API doesn't support categories/tags, so you do have to go back in and edit those if you want them. Other than that, seems pretty cool so far. I haven't tested the posts in the future but that might be something nice to do. To sit down and create a few posts, and then set them for different days. Might keep this blog from gathering too much web lint.

Now Serving Over Half a Million...

, , , ...

It's a great day here in Opera Land. Over half a million users. Yep, you heard it right, folks, over 500,000 folks have signed up for an Opera blog. Fluffy Bunny recalls her first encounter with the Opera Browser and the community, admitted she would pretty much sign up for anything, and two years and one Member of the Week (December 2005) later, she's found solid footing and a loyal following here, not to mention scads of friends, near and far.

SerbianFighter came out of hiatus long enough to write this eloquent post about how much the Opera Community means to him. And he's contributed in a very large way to the OC through his Opera Blog tutorials, graphics and other goodies for everyone here to use and enjoy. That he is compelled out of hiatus today speaks volumes about this community and what it means to quite a number of us.

I also am not without quite a bit to say about this place. I'm grateful in my own way to the OC because it's put me in contact with some amazing people, some of whom have become very special and significant in my personal life. This place has the capacity to enrich us all. We just have to be selective, as in real life, and learn to separate signal from noise.

As stated in the audio portion of this post, take your mouse for a walk here, you might find some interesting things.

Hold On to Your Dreams. Hold On to Your Mammaries...

It's just about time for the Fifth Annual Boobiethon, where bloggers -- male and female alike -- bare their breasts for breast cancer. All proceeds from the 'Thon go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. I participated in 2003 and 2004, and plan to again this year. In fact, a thumbnail of this year's submission can be seen in my "Personal" photo album (sorry, Friends only!). Stay tuned, as this year's Boobiethon launches on October 1.

And .. I'd like to prevail upon some of my favorite men to send their shots in too. It's all for a good cause, so guys, what are you waiting for?! Rip off that shirt and get in front of the camera!

Update: Here are some shots of mens' chests amongst the photos from last year's BoobieThon. Just so you guys know what to submit! :-)

Update 2: To save you all the trouble of hovering over those pesky links, below is a list of the guys I am hoping will contribute to the cause by throwing caution -- and their tee shirts -- to the wind.. Guys, go to the BoobieThon site and bookmark it; check back well before October 1 for details on how to submit your photos. And if you do decide to participate, THANK YOU!!!

Richard (Musickna), Marcus (FXM256), Roger (rogerleos), Ivan (SerbianFighter), Q-ELL (makeqfit), Lagged2Death, Joe (J-O-E), Lokutus Prime, Ben (Bennox), David (davidcrickett), Jon (Organic Chunky Salsa), Elmar (E. Driver), Dave (devans186), Brian (brianj), CykoPhysh, and Dan (HeathenDan).

Update 3: I've crossed through the names of male bloggers above who have agreed to contribute chest shots for the Boobiethon. Way to go, guys. And thanks for your contributions! :-)

Blogathon 2006

, , ,

Come on folks. The Blogathon has already started for most of the world, but there is an alternate schedule for those observing the Jewish sabbat. So.. there's still time to open those wallets, raid your sofa cushions, scour the floorboards of your car and grab that coffee can from the top shelf in the garage. Trisha and I will be blogging starting at midnight (her) or 11:00PM (me) tonight, for 24 hours, through midnight/11:00PM Sunday night, all to benefit the United Cerebral Palsy Foundation. So .. sponsor us!. Carry on.

2 Girls...24 Hours...Countless Victims

, , ,

Hey everybody, I'm gearing up for the 2006 Blog-a-thon coming up in a couple of weeks. It's been a while since I participated as a blogger, but I remember how much fun it was and how satisfying it is to see my blogged-for charity get a little money. Here are the specifics:

Date: July 29, 2006, 9PM EDT to July 30, 2006, 9PM EDT, 24 fun filled hours, boys and girls!
Blogging Partner: Trisha Watts at BabyGotBlog.com
Charity we are blogging for: United Cerebral Palsy
What you can do to help: Sponsor Us, Dammit!. Oh, and dropping in occasionally to slap us back to life and help keep us awake and blogging would be appreciated!

Like the banner? It was created by my web design partner, Ivan Minic. Thanks Ivan, and yes, I guess we believe you when you say you could find NO OTHER image but that one of the breasts spilling out to there and back for our banner. Gah! Men! :-)

O9 Launch

, , , ...

Just got back from the official launch event for Opera Version 9 held on June 20 in Seattle. Had a great time, was able to put a few names to faces and make some new friends. My room was divine -- a well stocked mini-fridge helped, along with a beautiful 12th floor view of the Space Needle and Puget Sound right outside the sliding glass door (which I left open all night while I slept). There are some photos in the Photo Album; some of the event and people, and some that no one else got. (At least I hope not! They are of my room!)

The presentation was very well thought out, the preparations even more so. I learned a few things about this browser that I didn't know before and now I'm anxious to try Version 9 out and start using it regularly.

Mo better coverage of this event can be found at Daniel Goldman's Opera Watch and at Drew Olanoff's Best Damn Tech Show. Period.

Another Odometer Rollover...

, ,

Behold. Does this mean that this blog is now officially a "jalopy"?

And, of course, this wouldn't be possible without the help of you guys. Thanks. I'll try to keep make it interesting!

Cat Got Your Tongue?

Or something else?

Adieu, she cried, and waved her lily hand....

I'm taking a break from this web site and from being online in general; don't know for how long. So go play in the archives until I return, whenever that may be! Peace out.

Update: To explain, because you deserve that, there is a lot going on "on the other side of the screen" as Loku expressed it. Robert has health issues, we are in the middle of looking for a new house, my job has become busier than ever, I'm trying to get my web design business off the ground after a year-long hiatus. The point is that I have been seriously remiss in taking care of my offline obligations. Once I clean house, so to speak, I'll be back, don't worry. (Did you think you were gonna get off that easy?)

Yeep! Odometer Rollover!

,

Come on guys, push it over the edge!

Update:

At 9:01PM I welcomed my 50 thousandth visitor. Thanks, whoever you are, for stopping by, and the 49,999 before you. Hope you all have found something that interests and inspires you. (Or at least makes you roll your eyes in complete disgust!)
