In My Ears

My Last.FM widget. He made me get an account. (And I always do everything he tells me to do.) :-P As much as I love to listen to music while I am online, it's a pretty great resource. I've discovered some new artists this way.

Think Pink

, , ,

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and in addition to participating in the Fifth Annual Boobiethon, I've decided to jazz up the place with some seizure inducing shades of pink, my favorite of which is Pepto-Bismol! Be sure to visit the Boobiethon site so you can ogle you some breastesses. And I've hounded and harangued some of my male friends and cohorts into submitting their chest shots too. So go peek.

P.S. Don't worry, this theme will be up for the duration of the Boobiethon (one week), and then it's back to baby puke green and pears, until the end of the month, when you can become bewitched (or nauseated) by my Halloween skin. Because nothing says Dark Master quite like black and red. You've been warned.

Now Serving Over Half a Million...

, , , ...

It's a great day here in Opera Land. Over half a million users. Yep, you heard it right, folks, over 500,000 folks have signed up for an Opera blog. Fluffy Bunny recalls her first encounter with the Opera Browser and the community, admitted she would pretty much sign up for anything, and two years and one Member of the Week (December 2005) later, she's found solid footing and a loyal following here, not to mention scads of friends, near and far.

SerbianFighter came out of hiatus long enough to write this eloquent post about how much the Opera Community means to him. And he's contributed in a very large way to the OC through his Opera Blog tutorials, graphics and other goodies for everyone here to use and enjoy. That he is compelled out of hiatus today speaks volumes about this community and what it means to quite a number of us.

I also am not without quite a bit to say about this place. I'm grateful in my own way to the OC because it's put me in contact with some amazing people, some of whom have become very special and significant in my personal life. This place has the capacity to enrich us all. We just have to be selective, as in real life, and learn to separate signal from noise.

As stated in the audio portion of this post, take your mouse for a walk here, you might find some interesting things.

Hold On to Your Dreams. Hold On to Your Mammaries...

It's just about time for the Fifth Annual Boobiethon, where bloggers -- male and female alike -- bare their breasts for breast cancer. All proceeds from the 'Thon go to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. I participated in 2003 and 2004, and plan to again this year. In fact, a thumbnail of this year's submission can be seen in my "Personal" photo album (sorry, Friends only!). Stay tuned, as this year's Boobiethon launches on October 1.

And .. I'd like to prevail upon some of my favorite men to send their shots in too. It's all for a good cause, so guys, what are you waiting for?! Rip off that shirt and get in front of the camera!

Update: Here are some shots of mens' chests amongst the photos from last year's BoobieThon. Just so you guys know what to submit! :-)

Update 2: To save you all the trouble of hovering over those pesky links, below is a list of the guys I am hoping will contribute to the cause by throwing caution -- and their tee shirts -- to the wind.. Guys, go to the BoobieThon site and bookmark it; check back well before October 1 for details on how to submit your photos. And if you do decide to participate, THANK YOU!!!

Richard (Musickna), Marcus (FXM256), Roger (rogerleos), Ivan (SerbianFighter), Q-ELL (makeqfit), Lagged2Death, Joe (J-O-E), Lokutus Prime, Ben (Bennox), David (davidcrickett), Jon (Organic Chunky Salsa), Elmar (E. Driver), Dave (devans186), Brian (brianj), CykoPhysh, and Dan (HeathenDan).

Update 3: I've crossed through the names of male bloggers above who have agreed to contribute chest shots for the Boobiethon. Way to go, guys. And thanks for your contributions! :-)

Uh. No Comment!

, ,

To combat the comment spam that seems to be rampant here in the last 24 hours or so, I've turned off comments to everyone except Friends. I'll have enough housekeeping to do without having to delete dozens of these types of comments.

Carry on.

UPDATE 05.03.06 Since it appears the back door that allowed these comment spammers in has been nailed shut, I've enabled comments for registered users again. (Anonymous comments have been disabled for quite some time now and, human nature being what it is, that's not likely to change. You might want to have another look at my Rules for Commenteers. In case you've momentarily forgotten all the manners your momma taught you.) So ... have at it.

UPDATE 05.05.06 Looks like the comment spammers are back at it. Must have found another way in. So, once again, unfortunately, this blog's comment system is on "Friends Only" mode. Sorry guys. Hilarity ensues.

Adieu, she cried, and waved her lily hand....

I'm taking a break from this web site and from being online in general; don't know for how long. So go play in the archives until I return, whenever that may be! Peace out.

Update: To explain, because you deserve that, there is a lot going on "on the other side of the screen" as Loku expressed it. Robert has health issues, we are in the middle of looking for a new house, my job has become busier than ever, I'm trying to get my web design business off the ground after a year-long hiatus. The point is that I have been seriously remiss in taking care of my offline obligations. Once I clean house, so to speak, I'll be back, don't worry. (Did you think you were gonna get off that easy?)

Easter Eggs

, , , ...

My recent post on friendship caused me to think about all the friends I've made here on the OC. Not just people who are on my "Friends" list or blogroll. But people who I can talk to, whose opinions I value, who have reached out their hand in friendship to me from the moment I landed here. To those folks, here's a little something from me to you. And if you believe, "Happy Easter!" If not, "Thanks for being a friend!"

Zenya ... your music posts inspire and calm and comfort. This song also does that for me. Hope you feel the same way.
I Am Your Angel, Celine Dion.

Scott ... you have a talent beyond measure in your artwork and in your thoughts. This song, to me, captures that spirit. Never let the flame die, friend!
What The World Needs Now, Dionne Warwick.

Ivan ... What can I say, dawg? You are the glue that holds this place together. I wish you health, happiness and love. And may the underdogs of the world, whose causes you are always tirelessly championing, prevail!
Hero, Mariah Carey.

Allan ... What a great inspiration you have been to me. Your photographs capture the soul, your words inspire, haunt, delight. You have a love for life that is contagious! This one's for you and the Missus!
True Romance, Chris Isaak.

Sarah Bell ... Fiesty, funny, thoughtful, temperamental, moody mama! Texas gal! Okay, here you go!
When I Die, Tanya Tucker.

Richard ... You've hung on through that roller coaster ride, dude. What can I say? You are truly an inspiration to me.
Life Is a Highway, Tom Cochrane.

Leazz ... Your story touched my heart the minute I first read it. You were given a special gift, in the form of a special friendship and love. It was taken from you too soon. But you've turned that tragedy around into a positve life force. I see it every day when I read your blog. Keep believing, keep loving!
I Hope You Dance, Lee Ann Womack.

Dave ... The few, the proud, the Dave. You have a finely honed awareness of others. (No one else noticed the coming and going of my photo; or at least thought to mention it.) Great blog, guy. Keep it up! Hope this song brings back good memories!
Magic Carpet Ride, Steppenwolf.

Louis ... You have been going through the same thing I have lately. Fortunately for both of us, the light at the end of the tunnel is NOT a train! Keep the faith! It will get better!
Keep On Moving, Five.

Pimp Your Blog, You Mac-Daddies!

Okay, Here's the Original Entry!

A blogger's stock in trade, his currency, is blog traffic. Visitors to his blog. How do you attract new visitors to your blog? Well, you have to get yourself noticed. There are several good opportunities to do this -- to get yourself noticed AND drive traffic to your site. An added bonus is you might discover a blog you didn't know about before. How cool is that?

Participate in the Weekly Opera Spotlight

My Opera Spotlights is in audience participation mode now. While you surf each week, keep your eye out for interesting, humorous, informative blog entries. Submit them to be spotlighted each week. You'll get honorable mention for recommending the entry and help another blogger get noticed. It's a win-win situation.

Participate in the Weekly Blog Carnival

This is almost the flip side of the weekly Spotlight, which captures new and interesting posts. The Blog Carnival prefers to call attention to older posts that have rolled off the front page. In addition, it is theme oriented (new theme each week) and travels from blog to blog, just like a carnival. This week, the topic is Student Life. So dig deep into your archives if you have posts that fit that topic. Or be on the lookout for posts that fit. Or if you prefer, offer to host a blog carnival. Read more about it here.

See you 'round the OC!

I managed to salvage the original comments from Google's cache.

Group Grope

,

I've been receiving quite a number of inquiries, mostly via PM, about how to do this or that with the Opera blog stylesheet, design, etc., and general how-to and HTML questions. I've created a group where you can go to post your questions. Anyone who stumbles upon it and sees a question they can answer is welcome to have at it. I think it's a lot easier for you to ask and me to answer in this way. Especially if you don't leave me an email address (cough) or have the PM feature turned off (cough). I'll leave this sticky post here for a few days; the link is also in my sidebar.

My Help Desk. (Don't bother heading over there right now unless you just want to admire the pretty banner. I haven't posted anything, but I will soon. Promise!)

Banners

,

As you notice, I am swapping out the series of banners I created for Fred's brand spanking new design. They are free for your use. Just head on over to my Photo Album and choose one, more or all. You can play around with the font family, size and color as I did on this banner to get different effects for your title and tagline.
