No, it's not CSS Naked Day. The Opera servers are having fits again and somehow my stylesheet has been hosed. So, for awhile at least, you've all been spared the retina-burning hot pink and black design that was here just moments ago.
Gosh, I missed the 1,000,000 Opera Community rollover! That won't stop me from saying, Way to Go, Everyone! And I owe my happiness in large part to certain Opera members I've met here. People whom I love dearly and without whom I would be completely lost. They know who they are. I'm not the only one who has observed that this is a close-knit community full of caring people who are true friends. It's not often you can say that about folks in an online community. And I'm just so glad to be a small part of it.
To all my Opera friends, {{hugs}}, {{kisses}}, {{headbutts}} (from my cat!).. And here's looking forward to the
2,000,000
rollover!
Meanwhile, enjoy this YouTube video about true friendship.
Tomorrow is my friend David's birthday. We won't say how old he is, but he certainly is old enough to do just about anything he wants! Whether it's illegal, immoral or fattening, all I can say to my friend, David, is Let your conscience be your guide, dude! .. and then get the heck out of the way!
Happy Birthday!
I dag er det din fødelsedag
Hurra, hurra, hurra!
Du sikkert dig en gave får,
som du ønsket dig i år,
og dejlig chokolade med kager til.
English translation:
Today it is your birthday
Hurray! Hurray! Hurray!
You've assured yourself a present
that you have wished for this year
with lovely (hot) chocolate and cakes to go with!
And here's a little something to listen to while you sip that chocolate and scarf that cake!
I decided to take one of the new user-created stylesheets for a spin. When I wanted to revert back to my custom stylesheet, it's been hosed. Ugh. So.. until I get time to go back in and fix the shit, the new design stays. But .. I am not happy about designs that behave in unexpected ways like this. (Yes, I've cleared my browser's cache.) :-(
If foul language bothers you, don't click on the link; just keep moving.
There's a new toolbar available for the Opera browser. If you design web pages, it's positively a godsend. Download it here. One caveat: It resets all your Opera browser custom settings so you may want to take note of those settings before installing the toolbar. Works with Opera 8.x and above.
There's a great1interview of my main man and partner in crime and web design in the People section of the My Opera front page. I owe the fact that I met this wonderful, intelligent and exceptionally talented young man to this dude, who dragged me, kicking and screaming to the My Opera community in September 2005 so I could redesign his Opera blog. The rest, as they say, is history. I've now got a soulmate and a phenomenal web design partner. And one more person in my life whom I can make miserable. :-)
______ 1And it's not because I conducted the interview either; it's purely about the subject matter, because when you have good subject matter, how can you go wrong?
What a great time to come sliding back into the OC, sideways, hair on fire, dust all around. Lots of cool new toys to play with. But it looks like he got it right oh so many months ago:
We now have a shiny new OC!
Lot of things have been going on, I've been just swamped with work of every description (fun and not so fun), but really been enjoying our new house. (More about that later.) Lots of catching up to do.
It's a great day here in Opera Land. Over half a million users. Yep, you heard it right, folks, over 500,000 folks have signed up for an Opera blog. Fluffy Bunny recalls her first encounter with the Opera Browser and the community, admitted she would pretty much sign up for anything, and two years and one Member of the Week (December 2005) later, she's found solid footing and a loyal following here, not to mention scads of friends, near and far.
SerbianFighter came out of hiatus long enough to write this eloquent post about how much the Opera Community means to him. And he's contributed in a very large way to the OC through his Opera Blog tutorials, graphics and other goodies for everyone here to use and enjoy. That he is compelled out of hiatus today speaks volumes about this community and what it means to quite a number of us.
I also am not without quite a bit to say about this place. I'm grateful in my own way to the OC because it's put me in contact with some amazing people, some of whom have become very special and significant in my personal life. This place has the capacity to enrich us all. We just have to be selective, as in real life, and learn to separatesignal from noise.
As stated in the audio portion of this post, take your mouse for a walk here, you might find some interesting things.
Just got back from the official launch event for Opera Version 9 held on June 20 in Seattle. Had a great time, was able to put a few names to faces and make some new friends. My room was divine -- a well stocked mini-fridge helped, along with a beautiful 12th floor view of the Space Needle and Puget Sound right outside the sliding glass door (which I left open all night while I slept). There are some photos in the Photo Album; some of the event and people, and some that no one else got. (At least I hope not! They are of my room!)
The presentation was very well thought out, the preparations even more so. I learned a few things about this browser that I didn't know before and now I'm anxious to try Version 9 out and start using it regularly.
