All Fired Up

I'm not a religious person, but I believe in YOUR right to worship as you choose. To destroy a building like this, in the name of God, Allah, Mickey Mouse or George Bush, is just incredible to me. This is the kind of animalistic behavior that should be stopped. And these people want that land for themselves? For what? So they can burn it to the fricking ground?

More puzzling is the light sentences that several young men were given for the burning of a MOSQUE in Nis that same year (2004). The Muslim community was outraged over that. Let's review: Burning a MOSQUE? Bad. Burning a CHURCH? Hunky-fucking dory.

Just to show you the beauty of these sacred buildings, here are some photographs of various churches, mosques and temples around the world.

The Muslims are offended again. How will I ever cope? Now, since they can't manage their own minions, they want to tell the Catholics what to do? Find a ladder and get over yourselves.

Losing My Religion

I took the "What Religion Is Right for You" Quiz over at Ben's place. Although I claim to be an atheist, I'd be comfortable wearing the label Satanist, too. I happen to very much believe in its Nine Satanic Sins.

You scored as Satanism. Your beliefs most closely resemble those of Satanism! Before you scream, do a bit of research on it. To be a Satanist, you don't actually have to believe in Satan. Satanism generally focuses upon the spiritual advancement of the self, rather than upon submission to a deity or a set of moral codes. Do some research if you immediately think of the satanic cult stereotype. Your beliefs may also resemble those of earth-based religions such as paganism.

Stupidity Rears Its Ugly Head Again

,

I'm spitting mad over this nonsense. I briefly touched on it in my other blog. But I'm going to go to town here. I guess it's like trying to reason with a rabid dog. You just can't. These people's minds are so narrow, not one lucid, rational, logical thought has a chance of slipping through.

From this article:

Tantawi said the Danish prime minister must apologize for the drawings and further demanded that the world's religious leaders meet to write a law that 'condemns insulting any religion, including the Holy Scriptures and the prophets.' He said the United Nations should impose the law on all countries.

Uh, don't most countries already have laws against KILLING and MAIMING people? And do you see how closely those laws are being obeyed?

So now the Muslims - but one religion in a host of religions all over the world - get to dictate how everyone everywhere should behave? Behave? These arbiters of restraint and decorum? If all this violence wasn't so tragic, the whole thing would be just damn funny.

Take the Sacred Cow for example. If the Muslims have their way, wouldn't every burger joint and upscale grille be an affront to Hindus everywhere? Where do you draw the line? Try as they might, they can't make this a world wide issue. As a favorite South Texas federal judge said in one of his more mirthful opinions:

You can put a calico dress on it and call it Florence, but at the end of the day, a pig is still a pig.

Do They Get It Yet?

, ,

Are the Muslims starting to catch on that it's okay to poke fun a bit, because we Westerners enjoy free speech and freedom of the press? Do they now understand that such things can be done in the name of freedom of expression and that no one's embassy is going to be torched because someone Photoshopped (and badly I might add) this?

One can only hope. Unfortunately, I don't think the noble explanation is the correct one. Instead, it's more likely that they are just baiting, for the sake of it. That the whole time these fundamentalist Muslim clerics have been loudly complaining1 that an apology is not enough for the "heinous" and "vicious" crime that was perpetrated on the Muslim people and their (not MY) Prophet, but that **blood** -- anyone's -- must be shed and now, these Muslims can do what amounts to the same thing and get away with it.

They will "get away with it" because the Western way works and this insanity2 does not, because it doesn't have a logical leg to stand on. Does anyone know what the Islam (?) word is for "tolerance"? Anyone? Anyone?

[2] When I say "insanity," I'm referring to the outrageous acts of the radical Muslims, not Islam as a whole.

A Moderate Muslim

, ,

Once again, Greg (a/k/a A Moron Abroad) comes through with another gem of a link and some background information. This time, it's Denmark's Naser Khader. Khader's site is in Danish (naturally), but he's started translating some of his writings into English, foremost among them this Declaration by Newly Founded Moderate Moslem Network. Its goal is summed up nicely in the Declaration's final paragraph:

It is our hope that our example here in Denmark will make Moslems around the world react and follow our lead. Only by uniting, can we change the fundamentalistic picture of Islam that the many extremists have drawn with violence.

Wish They'd Listen

, ,

As was pointed out in comments to my previous post, there are fanatics everywhere, indeed. Yet when Islam's own leaders speak out, why won't its followers listen?

You have to wonder, though, why this is just now getting reported. The violence has been going on for days. Did these clerics just now decide to call for a stop to the violence or did the news media just now decide to report it?

In Baghdad, Iraq's top Shiite political leader criticized attacks on foreign embassies by Muslims.

"We value and appreciate peaceful Islamic protests," said Abdul Aziz al-Hakim. "But we are against the idea of attacking embassies and other official sites."

Britain Convicts Imam of Fomenting Hatred.

The judge, Anthony Hughes, sentenced al-Masri to seven years in jail, saying that he had "created an atmosphere" in which murder was perceived by some as "not only a legitimate course but a moral and religious duty in pursuit of perceived justice."

So much for the peaceful religion of Islam, eh, folks?
