What Was She Thinking?!

Someone hold my drink while I climb down off my soapbox.

$641.73

Is the amount of our first full month's electricity bill in our new house. That's more than our little mortgage payment. Mind you, it's a lot bigger than the apartment we used to be in. Still, it's a bit of a shock. We're awake now!

Oh for the Love of Now Serving Over Half a Million...

Nope, Reliant Energy. Why go downstream? I get my juice right from the source. Of course, I have to remember that this house is over twice the size of our apartment, has high (nine foot ceilings), and an upper floor (my office) that needs cooling.

Hi there Joni,

Changing the lightbulbs throughout the house to CFL's will save you a lot of money.

Also switch off the geysers untill just 2 hours before showering or bathing, then off again when showering and bathing.

Have a beautiful evening!

Lots of love,
Wayne

Whoa! My sympathies. How about budget billing? It can help spread the load.

That's insane. Is that over a 3 month period? Our rates are much lower up here in the cold North.

One month's electrical?

Somethings wrong, somewhere.

Can't be that high, no way.

If that's the case........make a one time investment on suficient solar panels hooked directly to your meter. This way you can run your meter backwards and sell power to them. :D

For a single month? Granted, we are in an apartment, but still, In HOT HOT HOT Florida, mine was only 1/6th yours.

I am so sorry to hear about this!

Check if you have a "very old" freezer, that eat's alot of juice, but...
I think the "prob" lies in airconditioning, am i right ?
I have a hot 1.st floor to, but no way i could (or would) use aircon...
(coundn't afford the installation NOR the bill)
In Denmark we have a lot of focus on energy, at a public level like:
1 : Rating of refrigerators from A+++ (best) to C (worst)
2 : Losts of testing of "low energy" light-bulbs,including prizes
3 : just an example: Through some public service, we can "loan" a device, that you can test every single electric ablyanse/installation, what it uses on/on "hold",and theres a lot af money to get there !
So, if you wan't some advice, just ask, i'll try to find it here for you
PS: I live alone in about 85 kvm in 2 floors (SQ meters), and my bill
is about max 90$ for one month...
(and as you prob know, we "danes" pay everything 3 times, i mean, out of the 90$, 50 to 60 is TAXES!)
So ...you really have a problem there, hope you can solve it
:sherlock:
