Vegas, baby!

We cruised into Vegas at about 11 a.m. First stop: Elvis-A-Rama. It was sort of sad, actually. Most of the collection had been donated by people who had known Elvis 40-odd years back and have been trying to cash in on it ever since then. Two of them (Jimmy Velvet, possibly a recording star from the 50’s, and Cindy Pepper, a co-star from one of Elvis’s movies) were even at the museum signing autographed photos of themselves with Elvis way back when for a buck. We did, however, find a few gems.
For example, the glass Elvis once drank out of that the chambermaid was kind enough to swipe.

And this new eyewear. A great match with Jon’s facial hair.

But the real highlight had to be the show.

The Elvis impersonator actually interrupted the show to ask what the deal was with the flamingo. Jon confounded him by answering, “Well, it’s the 4th of July and what could be more American than a pink flamingo and Elvis?”

We checked into the Luxor – Can you tell which is the real sphinx? – then headed out to check out the strip.

It was MUCH more fun with beverage in hand…

A Family Reunion for Phil the Flamingo at the Flamingo Casino

We had been prepared to accept the think Elvis as the only one of the trip, but no! This Elvis must really have been into those peanut butter and banana sandwiches.

After relaxing for a bit in ancient Egypt, we headed out for a night on the town.
