Effect of low quality Shampoo....

Many consumers are worried about the use of sodium lauryl sulfate in their shampoo.
Both sodium laureth sulfate and it's close relative, sodium Lauryl sulfate are commonly used in many soaps, shampoos, detergents, and other products. Both foaming agents, chemically known as surfactants.

Surfactans is a shortened form for "surface-active agent", a surfactant is a chemical that stabilizes mixtures of oil and water by reducing the surface tension at the interface between the oil and water molecules. Because water and oil do not dissolve in each other a surfactant has to be added to the mixture to keep it from separating into layers.

Unfortunately, Far from giving "healthy shining hair" and "beautiful skin", shampoos containing sodium laureth sulfate and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate can lead to direct damage to the hair follicle, scalp irritation, tangled hair, and split and fuzzy hair.

So why sodium laureth sulfate and Sodium Lauryl Sulfate is frequently use in and soaps and shampoos? The answer is simple - it is cheap.

The sodium laureth sulfate found in our soaps is exactly the same as you would find in a car wash or garage, where it is used to degrease car engines. In the same way as it dissolves the grease on car engines, sodium laureth sulfate also dissolves the oils on your skin, which can cause a drying effect.

OK, now what would be the better choice if you had to pick between the two?

Sodium lauryl sulfate is used in many personal care products (shampoos, liquid soaps and shower gels), because it's produces a rich thick lather, sodium lauryl sulfate is slightly less reactive then sodium laureth sulfate.
The very best shampoos do not contain lauryl or laureth sulfates but those are pricey.
So if you had to pick between the tow, here some of my recommendation.

(NB)-Do not believe that just because a product is labeled as "natural" it is free from SLS or sodium laureth sulfate. Most common brands of "Natural" or "Herbal" shampoos still use these main active ingredient.

Shop smartly, with care and knowledge, and check your labels.
