Susan Boyle, I Have A Dream, Britain's Got Talent

Boyle is 47, unemployed, perpetually single and lives alone with her cat, Pebbles, in Bathgate, West Lothian – a town apparently dubbed "a dump" by Britain's Got Talent judge Piers Morgan. Boyle's sunny (if gauche) demeanour masks a sad life: the youngest of nine, she was deprived of oxygen at birth, which led to learning difficulties and, as a result, a childhood marred by bullying. Forty years later, it was her mother – whom she lived with and cared for – who wanted her to audition for the ITV talent show. But she died in 2007, leaving Boyle suffering from depression and anxiety.

In one of the episodes of the Star Wars saga, Master Yoda once uttered these lines:

Fear is the path to the dark side. Fear leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to suffering.

I was compelled to write on this topic due to some habitual whining of my friends in myOpera. They often complain about life and its miseries. Often cursing on comments and posts which sometimes are provocative. It's a habit that takes everybody like a storm and influences even the innocent souls present. This is not to scrutinize persons, rather aimed at examining the behavioral patterns including mine.

For the past weeks I was reading Angels and Demons by Dan Brown, an American author who wrote Deception Point, Digital Fortress and the controversial The Da Vinci Code. I must admit that his writing is remarkable. The first book that I read which he authored was Digital Fortress which I enjoyed reading. When I came across The Da Vinci Code and later Angels and Demons I was nonetheless critical about his writing.

Oftentimes we are confronted with a lot of questions pertaining to self identity. So much articles have been written and debates won about women. But what about us MEN?

I took the liberty of grabbing the following article that was originally written by my former Philosophy Professor way back during my collegiate years at Xavier University, Ms. Amy Chavez. When I was still a freshman, I was the type who always finds argument in almost everything trying to prove my identity and worth. Least did I noticed that I was only projecting my weakness and insecurities, not until we had this discussion about manhood in class that I realized that winning wars does not secure me a place in a society that is dominated by men.

This article might be old but I hope its message can reach across generations.

To Ms. Chavez, thank you for forging me to become rational. For teaching me that Head comes first, then the Heart, then last the Genitals.
