Susan Boyle, An Inspiration (From Britain's Got Talent)

, ,

Boyle is 47, unemployed, perpetually single and lives alone with her cat, Pebbles, in Bathgate, West Lothian – a town apparently dubbed "a dump" by Britain's Got Talent judge Piers Morgan. Boyle's sunny (if gauche) demeanour masks a sad life: the youngest of nine, she was deprived of oxygen at birth, which led to learning difficulties and, as a result, a childhood marred by bullying. Forty years later, it was her mother – whom she lived with and cared for – who wanted her to audition for the ITV talent show. But she died in 2007, leaving Boyle suffering from depression and anxiety.

My long wait is finally over. My favorite reality show has come back after 12 months of waiting. Britain's Got Talent is back!

Many of my friends scrutinize me why loving the show. My answer to them is always simple, they gave people a chance to showcase what they've got, even at times in the oddest sense of things. Sometimes the show is cheesy but that's how real life goes. People who never get the chance for a big break were given a once in a lifetime opportunity to make it to stardom.

On its first episode I was moved with the audition of Ms. Susan Boyle. Indeed, my first reaction to her prelude was cliche. I have seen various auditions in the past and I thought hers would be no different. I thought I would enjoy her part because Simon would probably pin her with his usual sarcasm. Unlike the other contestants in the past, her aura was relaxed and I thought, yeah it would be such a pity not to give her a chance considering her age. It was out of sympathy and respect to someone older with high ambitions that made me think that way. I thought she would be harmless and would set the crowd to laughter.

I was not actually looking at the monitor during the prelude. I was smiling and listening to their conversation, the judges and Ms. Susan Boyle. But when she started singing I dropped my other view and looked at the video. I was shocked same as the judges were. I asked myself where is that voice coming from? But it was her voice and she really meant each lyric of the song. She made it her own as if painting it in canvass with her own life story.

She is like a lotus which usually grows in muddy marshes, an odd place, yet bears a beatiful flower. The oddities of its sorrounding gives contrast to the beauty of its flower. Susan Boyle is like that, she don't possess the physical attributes of a pop star, opera star, whatever star it is, she has none. She is but plain and simple, stirs no attention and is like everybody else, ordinary. And it is in her ordinary-ness that made her special and outstanding. Her talent is pure, untainted, unaccented, honest and has a heart.

Honestly, her story is awe-inspiring and makes me think of my own ordinary-ness. When she was upstage the mockery behind the superficial faces of the audience did not even get into her. She was confident about herself and was not a single bit ashamed. She knew very well that she does not possess a lovely package that would grab attention. That alone made me think have I accepted wholeheartedly the person called "ME"? Are my insecurities still linger on and cripple me in doing what is best and for the best?

On the other side I was also reminded not to judge anybody based from the outward appearance. Each individual possesses unique jewels hidden from the obvious. We are all special and I would like to think that way all the time.

Well said theredtearsinheaven. Just as what Amanda Page said, "...it's our biggest wake up call....". Nothing really is impossible, and no reason could justify for not trying. Hope is always there for those who work hard and believe.

Just Gia 29. April 2009, 15:33

hey, just call me Gia,my friends always call me by that name :D
but ya think from where she takes those courage and confidence ?

Joseph Nepomucin N. Niez 29. April 2009, 22:25

Hi Gia! I call her confidence sheer humility. She is a woman who is well aware of she looks like and accepted her giftedness wholeheartedly. Most of us are insecure at times because we are ashame of our weakness and do not recognize what he have. We always put on masks that makes it even more complicated. She is very simple and honest, and went to audition to give it a try without hesitation and doubt.

I wish I could have that determination, guts and sense of self believing.

Just Gia 30. April 2009, 09:10

when she s on the stage, she seems does not care what other people think about her,a woman of firm stuff !
Indeed, some of us always afraid to the public opinion

Joseph Nepomucin N. Niez 30. April 2009, 22:13

I agree! Many of us have hang-ups which prevents us from doing our best and from moving on.

collette 20. May 2009, 15:47

Joseph Nepomucin N. Niez 20. May 2009, 22:18

That's a sad truth collettexX. Lessoned learned, give everyone a chance.

collette 20. May 2009, 22:24

Joseph Nepomucin N. Niez 20. May 2009, 22:25

Me too collettexX, most of the time I ignore people who looks different to me. It was a wake up call for me.

collette 20. May 2009, 22:36

Doktor 4. June 2009, 09:31

Hey Sef!
Long time no see, eh? I really appreciate that story. Even though I do not really watch TV. Great!
Have a nice time, pal.

Good bye
Mabuse

Joseph Nepomucin N. Niez 4. June 2009, 22:21

Hey Dok! How are things going over there! Yeah! Susan Boyle ended first runner up. But it's OK!

Same here pal, I don't watch TV just in youtube.

Be safe pal!

Until then,

Things are fine. I moved to another part of town and really like my new flat. I still have not submitted my thesis 'cause my Professor doesn't have much time for such things as it seems... Now, here we have a rainy holiday and I consider fetching some bread and stuff from the bakery for my girlfriend. Well, that's the situation

Joseph Nepomucin N. Niez 12. June 2009, 00:53

Sounds great Dok! That's funny, now it's your professor who doesn't have the time for your thesis, ei?! Hehehe! At my place the country is shaky. Our incumbent president is proposing for a constitutional change. They are calling for a Constitutional Assembly, we might change from Presidential to Parliamentary (which I prefer). And oh! better get those bread to her while it's still hot! Women can really make men do errands, ei?! The power of love! Hehehe! Ciao dok!

This reminds me of a video I saw here on my opera last year. I don't remember the poster ( shame on me ) but I do remeber the video.
It was a phone salesman from Wales called Paul Potts.

Anyway, like you said, awe-inspiring! Great post

Joseph Nepomucin N. Niez 26. June 2009, 16:10

Hi dok! yeah he was the winner of the 1st season of Britains Got Talent. Well, many people find the show corny, but yeah, I'm corny too. I just wish I get a big break just like them, although not in showbiz.

How do you do, dok?

daxonmacs 26. June 2009, 16:43

I hope you'll have your break, seph.
I'm okay, having my girls with me this weekend.

Joseph Nepomucin N. Niez 29. June 2009, 13:04

Oh! send my best to them.
