Still alive

,

Yes, it has been a long time since my last post here! Ok, why not coming back the same day OperaMini 5 beta has been released?

So, what am I doing now?

I am working on my slides for 19th EINIRAS Congress about mobile web and a tool we have, and I'll meet Chaals...

My main phone now is an Android based one, so, I have to wait for OperaMini 5 release to test it on my phone...

More news to come.

Talking about ICT4D and Opera

,

Today I'll give a talk about ICT4D in my University for a course titled "Technology Cooperation for Development. The main topics will be:

  • OpenSource
  • CTIC and W3C related activities
  • Opera and its mobile solutions, and some comments about the State of the Mobile Web. So this could be considered my first talk as Campus Crew member

Busy weeks

, ,

Latest weeks have been a bit stressful, but after all, very pleasant:

After that I've started playing with widgets (I'll show something soon), and I've joined Opera Campus Crew, so let's see if we can organize something here!

Opera Mobile in HTC Touch

, , ,

I have some phones to test the websites, and one of them is a HTC Touch. I won't say much about IE, the default browser included in, but it is tooo bad for being called a browser.

So I've installed OperaMini, and it is great. But, why not trying a real browser? So I've installed Opera Mobile 9.5beta2, and IT ROCKS!!. I has turned this poor device to a new league. I hope Opera release 9.7beta as soon as possible, because I want to try it.

OperaMini on Nokia 5800XM: Some improvements needed

, ,

After some days using S60 included and OperaMini 4.2 browsers in my new Nokia 5800XM, I have to say that some improvements are needed for OperaMini.

First of all, from the good side, the browser is fast, loads quickly and works as well as expected. But...

  • How can I manage bookmarks if clicking on a bookmark just load the link? (I want to delete/remove most of included bookmarks, so I've ended doing it with desktop version)
  • Sometimes, clicking on a link, the screen zooms in, sometimes zoom out, sometimes open the link, sometimes does nothing... So I've ended with compulsive clicking on the screen without response
  • At least two times, the browser hanged and I couldn't close it without shuting down the phone. I have to say that I am not using latest firmware available for my phone, so it could be a firmware problem...
  • On the configuration window, there is landscape/portrait option, but it isn't needed at all since the screen rotates automatically

So, IMHO, the user interface needs some improvements for touchscreen based devices, or at least, for S60 5ed touchscreen based phones.

On the other side, S60 included browser works much better than the one included in my old N81, and its JavaScript support has made Facebook and Google Reader (iphone versions) usable on it (for GMail I still prefer its html version). So, let's see what Opera can do for next releases. I trust on you...

Nokia 5800 arrived

,

Ok, now I have to find time and a decent camera to show how well OperaMini runs on this phone. There are some problems with the touchscreen since sometimes it seems that it is expecting double-touch and others it works directly with single-touch. And how could I manage the bookmarks if once I click on one, it opens the website. I need to take a look into this

OperaMini on Nokia 5800

Has any body tested OperaMini on the Nokia 5800? Is there any video available?

Starting a new blog?

, ,

Why starting a new blog? Because I can!

Ok, I already have my Spanish blog, and my blog account in OMAG. Both are OpenSource and mobile technologies related... But I also have an account in MyOpera Community, so, why not writing here more about one of the products I use most, Opera Mini, and of course about Opera.

So, first of all, congratulations to OperaMini team for releasing 4.2 for Android final version. But, what is next? 4.5? 5.0? Will it support accesskey attributes? What about a passworf manager like the one included in desktop Opera versions?

And one last question, when will Opera Tours arrive Spain? Perhaps, that would help in Spanish market share increase for Opera products like OperaMini.
