Still Life With <i>Mockingbird?</i>
Sunday, August 1, 2004 8:22:50 AM
NO! Still Life With WOODPECKER! One mistake I've been making with the book Steph let me borrow. To Kill a Mockingbird has a quote in it that (not to mention the title) that get me very confused. Oh, but Still Life With Woodpecker is a MUCH better book as the first line clearly says, in b-e-a-utiful black text, "If this typewriter can't to it, @!#$ it, it can't be done."
I wish I had that much trust in my computer to say the same thing about it. I did finish The Da Vinci Code last night. What an excellent ending. The twist was completely unexpected! Perfect! In fact, I think I will read it a second time! In real book form. ><
Well, wasting most of today away, I finally came up with a list of everything I like, such as bands, choice music, movies and all that crap. If you care, then read the following list, if not, skip it.
Music (no specific order)
Led Zepplin, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Foo Fighters, Pearl Jam
BEST SONG!!! Foo Fighters - My Hero
Movies
Favorite Director - Quentin Tarantino
Favorite Movie - Kill Bill
Short list, eh? Yes. I'm a lazy lazy bastard. Daaaaamn proud of it!
Now for life life life stuff. The stuff I call life stuff. The stuff that put me in a better mood tonight than normal...A VERY good mood, at that. The stuff of life that makes this all possible; myyyyyyyyyy Stephanie. (As if you haven't guessed that by now!) BUT before we do that, I must run down the entire day that led up to that! What's the point in a journal if I only tell the good stuff?! I feel I must torture you with a mix of the bad as well. BWAHAHAHA.
WOOOOOOKE up at around 11:30...ish with Mommasan (nice use of Japanese suffix!) hitting the lights, killing the fan and strangling the fat lady with the fans power cord...(she sang...nevermind...ANYHOO) Asked me questions about things, yes or no, which I answered with my thumb up, down or sideways. A half hour after she left, I finally clambered out of bed. Somehow, it didn't feel like I slept, even though I swear I did. Got dressed in the clothes from yesterday, climbed the steps, gots me breakfast. 12:45-ish, I called Steph. Her dad answered the phone, joking with me that I thought Steph would be up so "early." I had to laugh when I got off the phone with him, as it was very "early" for late-nighters to be awake...Which made me wonder why the hell Mummsy wakes me up so much "earlier." My class list came for the upcoming school year. There was a lot of pen on it when we got it sraightened out. No longer in any band, signed up for Programming II, since Programming I was already there, Business Foundation, College Biology, Geometry...Visual Arts? Ah, can't remember them all. Soooooo, after a while of bordem, my phone rang and surely enough, the sleeping beauty had awoken. From then up until about 5:45, I spent all my thought trying to think of where to meet my Steph at. Walking just seemed like the only thing on the list, since everyone in this "family" went "way way far away for a while, won't be back til later." and I had no transportation and really needed the excercise anyhoo. So, on the phone, we both agreed on that and I called Mummsy to inform her of my plans, then got together a camera, $8, my Hooters hoodie, and a cell phone...Which dropped to my house key, moolah, cell phone. Steph said to meet her in the library, though I knew very well she wouldn't stay there the entire 45 minutes it takes me to walk downtown. Got to the main street when I noticed olden cars lining the sides of it. A car show! Oh joy! How reminicent of the first date. Found Steph at a passing glance, sitting next to a Corvette on a piece of brickwork, sat meself down next to her and said hi, she said hi, we both said hi. She told me that if I didn't see her, I'd surely see the Corvette and stop to look, well she was right. I saw the Corvette first and then the person sitting next to it. BUT I was more emotionally attracted to the person, so I stopped by the person first.
She asked if I was thirsty, I said not really, well, she was thirsty, so we walked down to the new coffee shop. The lady there recognized us and gave us a happy greeting and we ordered. Of course, I can never decide what to spend my moolah on, so I took a suggestion from the lady, who obviously picked the second most expensive thing on the menu. I didn't care. It was a cold drink loaded with caffiene and sweet sweet coldness. Got our orders and headed for a table. Steph stopped at a small coffee table, so I found meself walking meself the last three feet, set my drink down, had a seat and saw Steph come over with a HUGE book on the Rolling Stones. It was spiffy. The cover was printed oddly. One side upside-down. Took a minute to figure out which side was which. She put it back a few minutes later and came back with two more books. One being of classic cars for me to look at. She has Elvis Costello (she sent me three songs of his on MSN just before I left), I have the roaring engines of the olden days. It's an even relationship in the end. After the first 30 pages, I got bored with it and flipped to the middle, then to the end, then closed it and got up, offered to take her book back, but NOOOOOOO she had to take it herself.
A few minutes later, we headed off up the street to start a VERY long walk around town. Got some pictures and walked to the railroad tracks down the street from the post office, then across town to check in with her mummsy then to an extremely small cemetary in the depths of her amazingly quiet neighborhood. She snapped a lot of photos there while I read the graves and cursed at the kid who rode his bike right over where the people were buried. WHAT DISRESPECT!!! That threw me through a loop. Too lazy to go around to the house he was going to. Ugh. I was very nice about it and didn't express it to the kid, instead murmured to myself and Steph tried to hush me and got me to ignore it.
I did catch her as she was falling backwards in attempt to get a pic!
Then back to her house, said hi to her dad and walked inside.
Wow...I can't concentrate right now...too tired. I'll finish this tomorrow. Good night all.
---
Now where'd I leave off...Geesh! This is still at the start of the night! Alright, let's keep this going, shall we? *trying to remember everything after saying hi to her dad* OH
Walked to the kitchen, Steph gave me a glass of ice water, she got herself some orange juice. (Yes, she offered, but I was happy with my water ^^) Then we made our way to her computer with our drinks in one hand and a hand in the other hand. (figure that out, it makes sense) She pulled up some music, now that I changed my mind about David Bowie, I didn't mind the potential music. A lot of '50's rock. It was fun. Her dad came in and joked with us. Before I knew it, I was invited to stay for a movie and pizza...and there was a ring of water on my leg from my glass.
They said I could use their phone, but I had a cell phone that had to be used anyhoo. Called home, and the wrong person picked it up. I just relayed what they said to the adult male, who said, "1:30 seems pretty late for a 15-year-old. Here, tell your mother exactly what you told me." So I did, but his voice sounded like he was trying for trouble. Mom sounded bewildered that I even called and expected 1:30 anyways. Asked me if I had my house key. Well, Steph's arms were wrapped around my stomach, where her head was resting, while her dad was giving me details on the night, so I had to work my arm past her head and arm, dig in my pocket to make sure my house key didn't fall out, told Mummsy it was still there and said good night to her, hung up the phone with a big grin and Steph knew I was allowed to stay.
So, with that said and done and satisfied and happy, I put me phone back in my pocket, Steph's dad walked to the kitchen and I was just happy I could stay. A minute later I was called to the kitchen just after Steph walked in there. Her mom was holding pictures and handed me a sheet of prints, told me to pick one...Took me a minute to learn that they took it as an insult if I didn't accept a picture of their beautiful daughter (Steph said she didn't mind it, but her parents were persistant
), so fighting against how I've always been (naturally shy to adults and satisfied with what I have), I picked a wallet size, handed it back to her mom, she cut it out and handed it back. Her dad just looked at the picture and started asking me questions. "Isn't she just the most beautiful girl you've seen?" "Yes." and things like that, then that turned into her parents saying how in Myrtle Beach, her and her sister really drew attention. Steph just rolled her eyes and walked out. I said thank you to them they said keep it protected from damage, don't put it in my pocket. So, I pulled out the cell phone, walked to the dining room table, put the cell phone on the picture. Steph saw me and laughed, I told her what her parents told me just before I came up with the idea. Listened to more songs, laughing at the lyrics to some of them. Poor guys seat belt wouldn't move so he couldn't get any from his girl, haha...woo...('50's song) Her computer makes me even more jealous. She has all these awesome features that I've wanted for my computer, then tells me she doesn't know how to use most of it anyhoo. ><
A little bit later, Steph, her dad, her brother, her sister and I think her mom and I all walked to a van, on the way meeting her aunt Dee (sp?) which we were told to hug eachother, making the best of it and fake crying like we haven't seen eachother in ages. I forget where we went. It was a very short trip though. Steph and I sat in the back, her sis sat up front with her dad and Josh sat by a sliding door. (Pilot seat) Of course, the back allowed Steph and me to be able to get as close as we wanted to be and all the fun stuff, laughing with the others when jokes were told and all that fun stuff too. Came back, a little while later left agaaaaain for Blockbuster to pick a movie. They weren't happy with Steph's mom who left separately to sample alcohol with her brother. Steph, me and her little brother (Josh) walked around and her dad and sis picked out a movie. While all that was in the works, I swore I heard DDR from across the store, wondering if it had a mat. When we were at the register, Steph told me to satisfy my curiousity and check. Sure enough, it was DDR, sure enough, no mat. So we left. Steph was rather aggravated that we were volunteered to go to the gas station to get a bag 'o' chips and dip. Didn't find dip. Came back, got a little ridicule (jokingly) from her dad because me of all people didn't see the container (which I simply replied with getting old, jokingly), grabbed our pizza (which was very good, compliments of Steph's sis) and watched the movie. It was called Paycheck. Turned out to be a really really cool nerd flick.
10 minutes into it, my pizza was gone, 15 minutes into it, Steph's was gone, 16 minutes into it, she was laying on my lap.
Half way into it, my arms were completely around her, as tight as can be, her one hand on my hand, and the other playing with my hair. Occasionally, we kissed.
I cracked some jokes about spots in the movie that got a better response than I thought. One was about the computer screens all coming up with ERROR 41 when someone tried to work this HUGE computer that was to predict the future, I shot out of the blue with, "Must be working on Windows." Steph laughed. In fact, I was surprised she heard me. Talking quietly. But yeah, we kissed quite a bit, I was extremely comfortable with my arms around her and her hand through my hair. (Yes, this all coming from the same cynic you all know and love. Answering the question, "Can a cynic fall in love?" Yes...a cynic can.
I figured I'd let you in on the intimate details this time.) The end of the movie, we kissed again. (Have I ever expressed exactly how much I love being intimate with this woman?)...(Well, I'm not sure the HTML rules for this journal, so I'll just leave it for you to think about.)
Then we slowly got up from the couch, knowing it was time to go home.
Grabbed the cell phone and picture, tucked the picture in an empty pocket and the cell phone in a side pocket. Climbed into the van and to the back, with Steph. She laid herself on me, and I laid my head on hers, closed my eyes and enjoyed it for every second I could. Fortunately, there was about 7 police cruisers blocking the fastest way to my house, so we had to take a huge detour.
UNfortunately, we made it to my house without any more detours. Steph and I kissed good night, I whispered, "Always seems to end too soon." Climbed out of the van, took my time up the yard, opened the UNLOCKED door, waved back, shut the door, kicked off my shoes, being as quiet as I could to not disturb the sleeping house, grabbed some clothes and hopped in the shower. Went downstairs, started this journal entry, only to be distracted a few minutes into with by Steph.
Around 3:45, she signed off, extremely tired and I got what I could on the journal done at 4:30 and climbed to bed.
Another night with Steph, only to end waaaay too quickly and waaaay too soon. I love her. Maybe the more the relationship goes, the more intimate details you get. The whopping...two of you. And just to tell you, as cynical as I am, I do love Steph and somehow seem to turn completely oblivious to cynicism when it gets to intimacy. Odd, ain't it? Now I must chop my fingers off for being that open. (nice while it lasted, right?)
Next morning, today, I get words from Mom about not locking the front door and all this crap about how we could've been robbed and someone could've killed us in our sleep. Yeah right. Nobody does any of that in this neighborhood. It's not entirely my fault. What about the hour and a half they left the front door unlocked between the time they went to sleep and the time I walked in, eh? Something could've happened then!
Started my chores, last thing on the list was dusting the pictures upstairs. Did that, got to the last picture when the adult male brings up the unlocked front door, with his reason being, "I didn't want to wake up and find all of our throats slashed open." Can I just...throw a blunt object in their general direction?!
Well, since then, nothing much has happened. Haven't been on neither adults good side lately, as they haven't been on mine, so I'm trying to stay out of their way.
Going to find something to do now.
