Spring time is a time of awakening and renewal. Plants can help you in this transitional period – especially the ones that have been tried and tested for centuries like nettle, dandelion, burdock, parsley…
For centuries, people from different cultures have been using the power of plants to treat the body and restore power. Herbal tonics are beneficial to the entire body, but often have a specific influence on certain organs. These tonics are often used by the whole body detoxification regimen, which includes a specific diet. If you’re using a juicer make sure it is a masticating on like super angel 5500. These are a lot better than the centrifugal ones.
Starving is not a bad way to start a treatment. Even if you don’t use herbs while starving yourself, it will have a positive effect on your body after your winter diet. If you have not tried this method, it is best to designate one day a week for starvation. That day, drink water and eventually squeezed juices from fruits and vegetables, or light soup. For longer starvation, consult a nutritionist. People suffering from a chronic disease (diabetes, heart disease ...) should consult with doctor.
It one-day hunger is often combined with eating leaves of fresh herbs. A popular herb used for purification of the body includes: dandelion, nettle, and sorrel. If you collect them yourself, collect them from a clean, unpolluted soil. In addition to leaves, some plants and roots are also popular; dandelion root or burdock for example.
Spring Tonic
One of the best and easiest ways to make a spring tonic tea is to make a tea of the mentioned herbs to your liking. Mix equal parts of dried herbs and keep in a cool, shaded place in a glass jar. Pour two tablespoons of mixture of one cup of boiling water and leave for 15-20 minutes. Strain and drink. You can add honey (but certainly do not use sugar.) Drink one to three cups of tea a day, for a week.
Most often used for the spring following treatment plants:
Nettle
Nettle leaves are food and medicine. Nettle is rich in iron, calcium, dietary fiber, vitamins A, C and K. Because of its composition, nettle is good for stomach, urinary tract and lungs.
Polish cabbage
It has a pleasant sour taste that refreshes. Moderate use of young leaves is useful as it’s a spring food - these leaves are rich in vitamin C and chlorophyll, carotenoids, various salts (especially iron) and other useful ingredients, the body needs in the spring. The leaves can be eaten young (fresh or cooked).
Dandelion
It strengthens the liver, is an effective diuretic, and cleanses the blood. Young dandelion leaves, rich in minerals, can be eaten fresh, or lightly boiled.
Parsley
Parsley tonic is beneficial to the urinary tract, and is effective as a diuretic. Seeds of parsley can help with rheumatism, but also to increase menstrual bleeding. Not recommended for pregnant women.
Bur
Tonic purifies the blood. It is rich in iron, and contains essential oils that promote sweating, and is therefore used for purifying the body and treatments for skin problems.
