PHYSICS & MATHS:- Getting good marks in CBSE 12 th Board.
Friday, September 18, 2009 9:34:20 AM
AUTHOR-J.P.Sinha.Teacher (Physics and Maths) for IIT-JEE/PMT
12th board exam is the most important stage in the academic life of any student in India. Good score in this exam in many cases ensures admission in good course or college. There is an element of prestige attached to it too : any student getting 90%+ marks in 12 th board automatically becomes the darling of his/her entire family - all of a sudden people start speaking good and respectful words for him.According to the proposed new Government Policy regarding the admissions in various Engineering Colleges in India, including IITs, marks earned by a student in his/her 12th board exams are soon going to become very important for his/her admission in Engineering Courses in India. According to the news paper reports, board marks will be given very important weightage in deciding the eligibility of a student in the Engineering Admission Process. A student scoring low marks in board exam will be not eligible for IITs even if he/she performs well in the entrance test.
So my message to all is: DON'T IGNORE THE BOARD EXAMS NOW
My experience as a teacher says that getting very high marks in board exams in India (at-least in CBSE board exam!) is honestly not very tough these days.
Following are few of the general advices that I would like to give to any one desirous of getting good marks in Physics and Maths in CBSE board exams:
Give utmost importance to your NCERT books. In maths exam, usually nothings comes from outside NCERT book. So for your board exam preparation do not consult any reference book. Just solve all the SOLVED and EXERCISE problems of NCERT again and again for practice.Remember that you do not have to leave any thing inside the NCERT maths book. Solve every single problem - both solved examples and exercise problems - present inside NCERT books. Solve all the Miscellaneous solved and unsolved questions too. Solve the Sample Papers available on CBSE website. If you gain the capability of solving any problem contained in the NCERT book without any trouble then I assure you that you can even get 100 marks in Maths.
For Physics, again NCERT book is very important. *Read all concepts of every chapter in full detail from NCERT.*Make a list of all the DERIVATIONS in each chapter.*Write the proofs of these DERIVATIONS in your note book. While writting the proofs follow the style in which you normally answer a question in exam. *Make a comprehensive list of all the important formulae of the syllabus. Revise them regularly.*Do all the NUMERICAL type questions present in NCERT physics book (both solved and unsolved ! ).*Make a list of important graphs present in your text book. *You must know all the Definitions and S.I. units of all the physical quantities dealt in the syllabus. *If possible, practice 'previous year questions' from each chapter from the book "Together with Physics" or "U-Like Sample Paper in Physics". *Solve the Sample Paper available on CBSE website.*Do the revision of all the above works again and again. You will then be able to solve the entire PHYSICS paper without any problem and getting 65+ (out of 70) score will not be difficult for you in Physics.
If you do all the above and join a test series for continuously evaluating your preparedness then I am sure no one can stop you from getting very high marks in the board exams. Doing regular tests is a must. It sharpens your problem solving skills. So ask your teachers to take frequent tests.
If your teachers are not taking tests on daily basis then for your benefits I have developed a very high quality Test Series in Physics and Maths. Its cost is very low so anybody can join it. For taking my test series in Physics and Maths click here

Hello Jitesh,
getting 100 marks depends upon many things.Firstly, it depends upon your performance in the exam.
Sometimes you unknowingly make an insignificant mistake or error. Now it is upto the person checking your answer sheet - if he is a little bit liberal, he may ignore that small mistake of yours. But if he is a perfectionist then he will definitely cut marks.
Sometimes the person checking your sheet may be of negative attitude who seeks pleasure in finding faults in others. In that case there is no hope to get a perfect 100.
So in my opinion don't get disheartened if you don't get perfect 100.Any thing above 95 is very good. More important is the depth of your knowledge in the subject. If you think your knowledge is good, and you know the entire syllabus well, then that feeling is worth more than 100.
So don't worry for the perfect 100 score, worry for gaining perfection in your preparation.Give the exam your best effort.Leave the rest to God (or Chance).
best of luck.

Hello Ashwini,
if your present school is not very bad - I mean even if it is average - then you should not change your school. Because changing school at this level will mean that you will have to make lots of re-adjustments.More over these days teaching qualities are not much different in different schools. If teaching quality of a high profile school were really good then students studying there would not be going for any private coaching or tuition.
Yes a high profile school has some prestige attached to it.In such schools, mostly students belonging to financially well off families are studying, so you can say there you have elite crowd.
But for success in life these things are not much important. Most important thing is your own hard work.If you study sincerely then you are sure to get success irrespective of the school you study in.
So study sincerely.
My mobile number is in perfect working condition.May be it was just a chance that you could not get my line.

Study from a teacher who teaches the concepts well.Famous or not famous-but a teacher must have good command over his/her subject.He/she must have interest in teaching.
So even if your teacher is not famous but he teaches well, then I would ask you that you should study from him.
For preparing for IIT-JEE, finish your basic NCERT syllabus quickly.

Hello Nehal,
I could have helped you if you had been my student.
The art of problem solving in physics can't be taught without direct face to face interaction between the teacher and the student.
So please contact some local teacher in your city for help.

Hello Nehal,
I don't teach any body in parts.Either I teach a person the entire syllabus or I don't teach him/her at all.Because, I think even problem solving is a part of teaching process, so according to my policy I won't be able to help you in this matter.I will again repeat: you should contact a good teacher in your city for help.
So please don't discuss this matter here again.
You can always ask for general advices on IIT-JEE preparation from me.

My Physics and Maths teachers are finishing their syllabus at a very brisk pace and apart from that they r conducting tests twice in a week due to which i have to labour very hard. And i am not able to emphasize much on Chemistry as back home we do not have that much concerned teachers for Chemistry. The main thing being that my Physics and Maths is taking almost the whole day and proper attention is paid to Chemistry. Sir due to such a hectic schedule of Physics and Maths suggest me a routine with the help of which i can pay proper attention to Chemistry as well as competent in Physics and Maths . Please be viable in ur answer bcz it is the question of my life, career and dreams. Thank u.

Hello Nehal,
this is a very tricky situation. You need to distribute your time to each subject in accordance with the requirement felt by you.By ignoring even one subject no one can ever succeed in IIT-JEE.Because there is a minimum cut-off marks fixed in JEE for each subject.A student scoring less than the cut-off in even one subject is automatically disqualified. So you should give atleast 3 hours daily to each subject.
Make your own Study Plan according to your daily routine and life style.
