PHYSICS & MATHS:- Getting good marks in CBSE 12 th Board.

AUTHOR-J.P.Sinha.Teacher (Physics and Maths) for IIT-JEE/PMT
12th board exam is the most important stage in the academic life of any student in India. Good score in this exam in many cases ensures admission in good course or college. There is an element of prestige attached to it too : any student getting 90%+ marks in 12 th board automatically becomes the darling of his/her entire family - all of a sudden people start speaking good and respectful words for him.According to the proposed new Government Policy regarding the admissions in various Engineering Colleges in India, including IITs, marks earned by a student in his/her 12th board exams are soon going to become very important for his/her admission in Engineering Courses in India. According to the news paper reports, board marks will be given very important weightage in deciding the eligibility of a student in the Engineering Admission Process. A student scoring low marks in board exam will be not eligible for IITs even if he/she performs well in the entrance test.
So my message to all is: DON'T IGNORE THE BOARD EXAMS NOW
My experience as a teacher says that getting very high marks in board exams in India (at-least in CBSE board exam!) is honestly not very tough these days.
Following are few of the general advices that I would like to give to any one desirous of getting good marks in Physics and Maths in CBSE board exams:
Give utmost importance to your NCERT books. In maths exam, usually nothings comes from outside NCERT book. So for your board exam preparation do not consult any reference book. Just solve all the SOLVED and EXERCISE problems of NCERT again and again for practice.Remember that you do not have to leave any thing inside the NCERT maths book. Solve every single problem - both solved examples and exercise problems - present inside NCERT books. Solve all the Miscellaneous solved and unsolved questions too. Solve the Sample Papers available on CBSE website. If you gain the capability of solving any problem contained in the NCERT book without any trouble then I assure you that you can even get 100 marks in Maths.
For Physics, again NCERT book is very important. *Read all concepts of every chapter in full detail from NCERT.*Make a list of all the DERIVATIONS in each chapter.*Write the proofs of these DERIVATIONS in your note book. While writting the proofs follow the style in which you normally answer a question in exam. *Make a comprehensive list of all the important formulae of the syllabus. Revise them regularly.*Do all the NUMERICAL type questions present in NCERT physics book (both solved and unsolved ! ).*Make a list of important graphs present in your text book. *You must know all the Definitions and S.I. units of all the physical quantities dealt in the syllabus. *If possible, practice 'previous year questions' from each chapter from the book "Together with Physics" or "U-Like Sample Paper in Physics". *Solve the Sample Paper available on CBSE website.*Do the revision of all the above works again and again. You will then be able to solve the entire PHYSICS paper without any problem and getting 65+ (out of 70) score will not be difficult for you in Physics.
If you do all the above and join a test series for continuously evaluating your preparedness then I am sure no one can stop you from getting very high marks in the board exams. Doing regular tests is a must. It sharpens your problem solving skills. So ask your teachers to take frequent tests.
If your teachers are not taking tests on daily basis then for your benefits I have developed a very high quality Test Series in Physics and Maths. Its cost is very low so anybody can join it. For taking my test series in Physics and Maths click here

thoroughly understand the theory. Then practice, revise, practice... till you become the master of the subjects. Syllabus of IIT-JEE is almost same as 11th+12th syllabus. Questions asked in this exam are tricky and you require a very good understanding of the subjects to solve them.

Return to your home town. Tell the truth to your parents. They will understand your problems. Study each subject with the help of personal tuition from good teachers. Ask your teachers to explain you the basics of the subjects in detail. Without understanding the basics you can't handle the type of questions asked in entrance examinations. This is not possible in your coaching, the sooner you accept this the better will be for you.
best of luck

Practice "previous years' board questions" in each chapter from books like Together With
simi
it changes from school to school. Some schools liberally give marks in practicals but few schools are strict too. So talk to your senior batch students for the real situation in your school.

take personal tuition in maths from a good teacher who can teach you from the basic. Books will not help much in this. Yes! if you insist I will suggest you to buy book named Calculus by K.C.Sinha.

no book can enable you to secure any rank in any exam. To do good in exam, try to understand the subjects of your study thoroughly and practice problem solving regularly. Revise periodically. If you really study well from any book (from the list of popularly recommended ones) that you enjoy studying, then and only then you can do good in IIT-JEE or any other entrance exam

as I told you in my last reply, take personal tuition from a good teacher in maths. No book can replace a teacher.
Book by K.C.Sinha starts from very basics and goes to very advanced level. You should use it as reference book to understand the concepts. But you should, for problem solving, focus on NCERT book because your concern is to get good marks in board exam only.
If you buy last year U-Like then no problem

ask your teacher to supply you a properly written notes on derivation of lens maker's formula. If he does not supply you that then copy the steps of derivation from some private publication book. Modify it to appear like a student's written derivation. Use diagram giving in the NCERT book.

read the above article again. Because your question suggests that you have not read the article.
For numerical practice solve all NCERT solved and exercise problem. Practice all the Previous Years' board Questions from books like U-Like or Together With

Prakriti,
When you finish a chapter you should first do all the NCERT solved and exercise problems as well as all the derivations, definitions, graphs, diagrams etc.. given in the text book. Then you may practice previous years' board questions of that chapter from a sample paper.

Search for online lectures. Although it is difficult to find.It is difficult to do good in studies without the help of a teacher. Ask some senior M.Sc students to teach you, they will charge you less fee than a professional teacher.

that course ware is good but will not help much in 11th and 12th studies of Indian syllabus. If you get the services of teachers the concept clearing will become easy. 10th and 11th are two different worlds. Forget what you scored in 10th concentrate on your 11th now.
Ashish,
yes. But study according to the way written in the article above.

decision of taking a one year drop for entrance exam preparation is very tricky. If you (and your parents) think that you have the potential to attain perfection in your preparation in one year then you may go for it else choose some easier second option like: hotel management, LLB, BBA, ... etc.

I think one year droppers will be eligible for IIT Mains and IIT Advanced.

It depends upon your personal preference. Close your eyes and ask to yourself what kind of engineer you want to become. You will get your answer. A branch of engineering is good only if you study it with sincerity and acquire all the skills that are expected from an engineer of that branch.

If your teacher does not synchronise his/her teaching with that of NCERT then what you can do? Study from the book that he/she recommends you to use. S.L.Arora is a guide kind of book. If it helps you then there is no harm in using it. I wonder why teachers are unable to teach from NCERT?
