PHYSICS & MATHS:- Getting good marks in CBSE 12 th Board.

AUTHOR-J.P.Sinha.Teacher (Physics and Maths) for IIT-JEE/PMT
12th board exam is the most important stage in the academic life of any student in India. Good score in this exam in many cases ensures admission in good course or college. There is an element of prestige attached to it too : any student getting 90%+ marks in 12 th board automatically becomes the darling of his/her entire family - all of a sudden people start speaking good and respectful words for him.According to the proposed new Government Policy regarding the admissions in various Engineering Colleges in India, including IITs, marks earned by a student in his/her 12th board exams are soon going to become very important for his/her admission in Engineering Courses in India. According to the news paper reports, board marks will be given very important weightage in deciding the eligibility of a student in the Engineering Admission Process. A student scoring low marks in board exam will be not eligible for IITs even if he/she performs well in the entrance test.
So my message to all is: DON'T IGNORE THE BOARD EXAMS NOW
My experience as a teacher says that getting very high marks in board exams in India (at-least in CBSE board exam!) is honestly not very tough these days.
Following are few of the general advices that I would like to give to any one desirous of getting good marks in Physics and Maths in CBSE board exams:
Give utmost importance to your NCERT books. In maths exam, usually nothings comes from outside NCERT book. So for your board exam preparation do not consult any reference book. Just solve all the SOLVED and EXERCISE problems of NCERT again and again for practice.Remember that you do not have to leave any thing inside the NCERT maths book. Solve every single problem - both solved examples and exercise problems - present inside NCERT books. Solve all the Miscellaneous solved and unsolved questions too. Solve the Sample Papers available on CBSE website. If you gain the capability of solving any problem contained in the NCERT book without any trouble then I assure you that you can even get 100 marks in Maths.
For Physics, again NCERT book is very important. *Read all concepts of every chapter in full detail from NCERT.*Make a list of all the DERIVATIONS in each chapter.*Write the proofs of these DERIVATIONS in your note book. While writting the proofs follow the style in which you normally answer a question in exam. *Make a comprehensive list of all the important formulae of the syllabus. Revise them regularly.*Do all the NUMERICAL type questions present in NCERT physics book (both solved and unsolved ! ).*Make a list of important graphs present in your text book. *You must know all the Definitions and S.I. units of all the physical quantities dealt in the syllabus. *If possible, practice 'previous year questions' from each chapter from the book "Together with Physics" or "U-Like Sample Paper in Physics". *Solve the Sample Paper available on CBSE website.*Do the revision of all the above works again and again. You will then be able to solve the entire PHYSICS paper without any problem and getting 65+ (out of 70) score will not be difficult for you in Physics.
If you do all the above and join a test series for continuously evaluating your preparedness then I am sure no one can stop you from getting very high marks in the board exams. Doing regular tests is a must. It sharpens your problem solving skills. So ask your teachers to take frequent tests.
If your teachers are not taking tests on daily basis then for your benefits I have developed a very high quality Test Series in Physics and Maths. Its cost is very low so anybody can join it. For taking my test series in Physics and Maths click here

Hello Abhishek,
yes, if you manage to clear an engineering entrance exam with good rank, then you can definitely do B.Tech from good engineering college. So prepare well for the engineering entrances.

for improving accuracy in calculations you should try to increase your concentration. No music or TV while studying. Do some meditation. Study at a peaceful place. Get your self a good teacher to teach you personally.
To Anonymous,
if you are in a transferrable job then studying in CBSE or ICSE board is better because these boards have presence throughout India. Yes, if you expect to be moving inside one state only then state board will be better because most of the schools in a state belong to the state board of that school.
To Prakhar,
get help from a good teacher in physics.
To Pankaj,
for 12th board CBSE, NCERT books are the best.

To Rajesh,
since I do not teach you so I can only give general advice to you.You need to be in touch with some good teacher. You should take personal tuition from him, if possible.Only then can your doubts in Physics be removed.
To Himanshu,
if you can manage with self study then it will be best.Else you should try some other teacher.Read the theory of maths from maths book you use. Read the solved examples too. Then solve exercise problems.
To Jayesh,
Maths- NCERT + Objective Approach to Maths(Arihant) or M.L.Khanna or TMH
Physics- NCERT + Objective Approach to Physics(Arihant)

To Arohi,
most 12th class numericals can be solved without the knowledge of integration. Integration is needed in the theory of Electrostats and Magnetic Effects of Current only.
Yes,without the introductory knowledge of Integration, Physics will appear difficult to you. So you must get this clear either with the help of your school teacher or some senior student.Do you know differentiation? If yes, then learning Integration will not be difficult.
To Athira,
what has happened, has happened. You can't change that. You should now only concentrate on doing your best in the 12th exams.
To Vishal,
to get 85% or more in 12th CBSE board you should do only NCERT in maths. In physics and chemistry- only NCERT+ ULike.
Read the above article carefully to know more.

To Mihir,
beyond a limit marks does not matter much. Anything above 95% is respectable. Main thing is that you should make efforts to gain in-depth knowledge of the concepts and ideas of the subjects that you study. And I would like to tell you that a student getting 100% marks is not necessarily better than a student who get 95%.Sometimes marks depends upon luck too. So don't worry about such things, and do your work of studying as honestly and sincerely as possible.
To Rohit Sinha,
to generate interest in maths I will suggest you to read few general-interest books in Maths. For example: Fermat's Last Theorem-by Simon Singh. Letters to a Young Mathematician- Ian Stewart.

Hello Tanu,
if you can recall your 10th board exam of maths, you will understand that nothing comes in the CBSE board exam that is outside the ambit of NCERT book. In the board question paper, all questions are either directly from NCERT or in the rarest case if a question is taken from outside NCERT then it must be similar to the types that are present in NCERT. Hence, if you can solve all sums present in the NCERT maths book ( all solved examples, all unsolved, all miscellaneous solved and unsolved), then you should have no problem in solving any question in the CBSE-maths-board-question-paper.
As far as getting 100 in maths is concerned, it depends on many factors, e.g. (1)your actual performance in the exam, (2)the examiner who is checking your answer sheet(if he is the kind of person who seeks pleasure in finding faults then you can't get 100 from him)(3)your luck ...
So getting 100 is not totally in your hand.
Yes, if you study well then definitely you will get marks above 94 or 95.But you can get 100 only if your luck smiles on you. So do not worry about it. Keep working hard leave the rest to your destiny.

To Ankit,
1)study the basic theory in each subject thoroughly,
2)if you can get the collection of past board questions for each chapter at one place, then you should solve all the past board questions from a chapter after studying the theory of that chapter.
3)learn the definitions, formulae and derivations to heart,
4) do all question from your text-book.
To Devika, Anonymous and Vinit
for MATHS, NCERT book is sufficient if you can solve all the examples and exercise problems present inside the NCERT Maths books.
For Physics, NCERT plus solving past board questions in each chapter is enough to get good marks.
GO to the top of this page and read the above article again to understand the plan of study
