Recommended Books for IIT-JEE.

WARNING:- Never use too many books.Always study from one or at most two good books.First study a chapter from a text book and only after finishing from text book, you should use any guide or reference books You should not buy all the following books.Buy one text book and one IIT-JEE guide in each subject. Go to a book shop and see all the books listed below.The one that appeals you more is the one that you should buy.

Recommended Books:

  1. NCERT-books;
  2. Concept of Physics-by H.C.Verma : Exercises and solved numericals of this book are of high quality;
  3. Plane Coordinate Geometry- by S.L.Loney: Contains detailed treatment of the subject.But style of presentation is a bit old fashioned.
  4. Objective Mathematics- by R.D.Sharma
  5. IIT-Maths-by M.L.Khanna;
  6. IIT Guides-Tata McGrow Hill Publication;
  7. MCQ Maths-by Das Gupta(Bharti Bhavan Publication);
  8. PHYSICS Part 1&2-by Resnik and Halliday;
  9. Book by IRODOV for Problems in Physics.
  10. Maths books by K.C.Sinha from Student's Friends Publication: Books by this author is meant to be used as reference books only.
  11. Books and Guides of Arihant Prakashan:There are several titles available for IIT-JEE in this publication.Choose the suitable one that fulfills your requirement.Books in "Objective Approach..." series and "New Pattern IIT..." series are particularly good.
  12. Books and Guides of MTG- Publication:There are several titles available for IIT-JEE in this publication.Choose the suitable one that fulfills your requirement.

Selecting text book for Physics: Advice

Many students ask to me "From which book should I study Physics?". The wording of their Question gives an impression to me that the availability of great number text books in Physics for IIT-JEE preparation has totally confused them.

My advice to all such students is very simple and straight forward: read basic concepts from any one good book. Do not read any topic from too many books. Start a topic or a chapter by reading it from NCERT first.Solve all problems contained in NCERT.Then do some problems of the type asked in entrance exams from that topic. After this, you will be able to judge for yourself if reading that topic/chapter from some advanced book is necessary or not. If you feel that what you learnt from NCERT is not enough to solve questions in competitive exams then (and only then !) read that topic from some other advanced book.For this you can use "Resnik and Halliday's book". Other books can also be used according to your personal preference.

Nilabhra Roy,
there is no need to go for special books on each chapter.For objective book in maths you may consider Objective Mathematics by R.D.Sharma.You may keep solving MCQs along with your normal studies from books like Objective Approach in Physics and Objective Mathematics by R.D.Sharma. For solving MCQs you may follow this plan: solve 10 questions per chapter per day in each subject. In this way, solve questions from all the chapters(of both 11th and 12th) that you have already studied every day.This will keep your memory always refreshed about all the chapters done by you.

Rajat,
first study the basics of logarithm. Try to understand Logarithm as a function. Also understand the graphs of logarithmic function for various bases. Try to understand the relationship between the logarithmic and exponential function properly.You may read some of these topics from Higher Algebra by Hall and Knight.

Nilabhra Roy,
Limits is important topic for IIT-JEE exam but mathematical induction is not that much important. Yes, you can never know, the question setters of IIT-JEE are very creative, they may even formulate questions on mathematical induction.

You can try past IIT-JEE papers(year 2004 onwards). Also books like New Pattern IIT Physics/Maths-Arihant Prakashan will also be helpful to you.

Parag,

in maths you can buy NCERT and either "Objective Mathematics-R.D.Sharma" OR "Objective Approach to Mathematics-Arihant Prakashan".

In Physics- NCERT and H.C.Verma

Saman,
in "objective approach to mathematics" many formulae are proved in the solved examples. So carefully read the solved examples.
You can also read the theory of NCERT book for proofs of some formulae. There is a very good book named Complex Variables by Shanti Narayan. In this you will find all proofs. But this book is very advanced. So only first two or three chapters are relevant to you.

Harsh,
sorry, I can not suggest you anything in Chemistry.

Rajesh,
you can use Objective Approach first. Read solved examples carefully before solving unsolved questions. Because many important concepts have been introduced in it through solved examples.
We will talk about other books when you have once finished all the chapters from this book.

Saman,
if a book or study material appears useful to you the you should buy it. There should be no second thought.

Harshanth,
you should consider TMH-IIT-Maths.

Parag Verma,
syllabus of both are almost same.Questions in both are MCQ and objective type. But in IIT-JEE you should except greater variety of questions and also in IIT-JEE questions are more tricky.

K.C.Sinha's book is good. But is is very lengthy. So finishing syllabus from K.C.Sinha is very time consuming.Try to search for a teacher.I can not comment anything on your financial status.But if you study well then I am sure that your financial status will not make difference.Don't spend too much of your time on internet.

there is no set rule for the required numbers of hours that a student must study every day. But yes, I can give you the minimum: atleast you should study 5 hours per day on an average. Always follow one simple rule: study to the maximum of your abilities.

Saman,
if you are enjoying studying from M.L.Khanna then no problem, use that book. As far as your problem of seeing the solution is concerned I will say it may be temporary. Keep doing problems from various topics repeatedly- solve atleast 5 problems from each already studied chapter every day. Slowly you will gain enough confidence to solve most problems without needing to refer to its solution.

Always give importance to the theory and derivation of mathematics in any chapter before attempting to solve problems in that chapter

Anonymous,
thanks pointing out the link problem. I will soon provide the necessary links.

saman writes: ok,sir Thats the method i like to study mathematics,first i derive all the formulaes & important results & after clearing all the concepts i jump to excercise but this is possible only if i have a book which has the necessary derivations ,for eg. SL loney for coordinate geometry & trigonometry,but some topics in algebra like quadratic equations, arent there in school syllabus ie.ncert and some portion is not there even in Higher algebra by Hall & knight. So im looking for appropriate books after searching i found a book named Arihant Algebra by S K Goyal,ill be just referring it for theory and proofs and then do questions from ml khanna & tmh.There are also two more books for Differential Calculus & Integral Calculus by Amit m agrawal (arihant). So do u recommend them theory? I reach home at 3pm,i can take tuitions from a very good teacher but then ill be spending 1 hour in travelling + 1 hour in tuition + rest of time in other tuitions so i wont have much time for self studying, i like self studying more than any tuition even though it may take more effort & time,so i rely on books for clearing the concepts.
