Recommended Books for IIT-JEE.

, , ,

WARNING:- Never use too many books.Always study from one or at most two good books.First study a chapter from a text book and only after finishing from text book, you should use any guide or reference books You should not buy all the following books.Buy one text book and one IIT-JEE guide in each subject. Go to a book shop and see all the books listed below.The one that appeals you more is the one that you should buy.

Recommended Books:

  1. NCERT-books;
  2. Concept of Physics-by H.C.Verma : Exercises and solved numericals of this book are of high quality;
  3. Plane Coordinate Geometry- by S.L.Loney: Contains detailed treatment of the subject.But style of presentation is a bit old fashioned.
  4. Objective Mathematics- by R.D.Sharma
  5. IIT-Maths-by M.L.Khanna;
  6. IIT Guides-Tata McGrow Hill Publication;
  7. MCQ Maths-by Das Gupta(Bharti Bhavan Publication);
  8. PHYSICS Part 1&2-by Resnik and Halliday;
  9. Book by IRODOV for Problems in Physics.
  10. Maths books by K.C.Sinha from Student's Friends Publication: Books by this author is meant to be used as reference books only.
  11. Books and Guides of Arihant Prakashan:There are several titles available for IIT-JEE in this publication.Choose the suitable one that fulfills your requirement.Books in "Objective Approach..." series and "New Pattern IIT..." series are particularly good.
  12. Books and Guides of MTG- Publication:There are several titles available for IIT-JEE in this publication.Choose the suitable one that fulfills your requirement.

Selecting text book for Physics: Advice

Many students ask to me "From which book should I study Physics?". The wording of their Question gives an impression to me that the availability of great number text books in Physics for IIT-JEE preparation has totally confused them.

My advice to all such students is very simple and straight forward: read basic concepts from any one good book. Do not read any topic from too many books. Start a topic or a chapter by reading it from NCERT first.Solve all problems contained in NCERT.Then do some problems of the type asked in entrance exams from that topic. After this, you will be able to judge for yourself if reading that topic/chapter from some advanced book is necessary or not. If you feel that what you learnt from NCERT is not enough to solve questions in competitive exams then (and only then !) read that topic from some other advanced book.For this you can use "Resnik and Halliday's book". Other books can also be used according to your personal preference.

reply from J.P.Sinha:

To santosh,
now you are not eligible to sit for the IIT-JEE.Because in IIT-JEE one can appear only within 1 year of passing 12th.

To Arun Nr,
H.C.Verma is a good book. But it is not up-to-date. It was written in 1992, I think, when format of IIT-JEE was different from what it is today. So apart from practicing problem solving from H.C.Verma, you should also do D.C.Pandey's book.

In maths you should use NCERT and M.L.Khanna (or Objective Approach to Maths-Arihant Prakashan).

To Anonymous,
yes, topics included in the IIT-JEE syllabus are almost same as that prescribed in the NCERT books of 11th and 12th.

To MB,
study to the maximum of your ability.Revise regularly.Do not ignore the theory.Study each subject everyday.

To Arun,
I think, you are not eligible for IIT-JEE 2010.But I will suggest you to check the IIT-JEE prospectus for more detail.For book list see the above articles.Arihant Prakashan books on AIEEE are good.

To GAYATHRI,
it seems that you are trying to learn physics.Understand physics.You will not have trouble with the derivations.

To Tushar,
in this only you can help yourself.Be brave.Start studying.Your confidence will be back.

time management is very difficult, if you go to school and coaching both.If you can avoid going to theory classes of school then you may save some time.Talk to your school teachers they may allow you to remain absent from theory classes.But you must attend the practicals.

To Souvik and Nony:

I have already give a book list above.

To Anonymous-1,
your are placed in EML of IIT-JEE.If you are interested in joining a career in research then IISER is a good choice.

To Anonymous-2,
Yes S.L.Loney is a better book for coordinate geometry than NCERT.K.C.Sinha's book and Arihant Prakashan's book are also good. But buy only one among these.

To Vicky,
NCERT and Objective Approach in Physics - Arihant Prakashan.'

To JIGYASA SHARMA,
no body can advice you on routine.It is very personal.At conceptual level IIT-JEE and NCERT syllabus are almost same.
CLICK HERE and HERE for more.

To Tushar-2010,
for physics theory NCERT is the best.
For practice D.C.Pandey's(Objective Approach to Physics) book is better for IIT-JEE preparation.

To Abhishek,
this is a very tricky situation. If you get selected in IIT next year people will praise your courage but if not then you will repent wasting one year.
IIT is also a Govt.Engineering University.It is no doubt that IITs are best for engineering in India,however, other colleges are also good. I do not know any thing about CET, Bhubaneswar. So talk to some senior students already studying in CET-Bhubaneswar>if they say teaching and job placement are satisfactory here then you may join it.

J.P.Sinha jyopra Thursday, June 25, 2009 4:31:22 PM

Reply from J.P.Sinha:

To Roohani and Akshit,

Read the theory of the maths carefully before solving exercises.
See solved examples carefully in maths to learn problem solving tricks.Instead of TMH you may buy "Objective Approach to Maths-Arihant Prakashan" as this book has lots of solved examples.

To Sai Krishna and Awadh,
first finish the basic 11th and 12th level syllabus in eight months.Then go for any extra book. Do not buy too many books.Just use one good IIT-JEE guide that too after finishing the basic syllabus.Click here and here to read the articles that open.

To Vicky,
no one book is good for everybody.Choose the one that suits you from the above list.

it will be difficult to prepare for IIT-JEE along with your first year studies.I think the two thigs are not compatible with each other.
