Selecting text book for Physics: Advice
Many students ask to me "From which book should I study Physics?". The wording of their Question gives an impression to me that the availability of great number text books in Physics for IIT-JEE preparation has totally confused them.
My advice to all such students is very simple and straight forward: read basic concepts from any one good book. Do not read any topic from too many books. Start a topic or a chapter by reading it from NCERT first.Solve all problems contained in NCERT.Then do some problems of the type asked in entrance exams from that topic. After this, you will be able to judge for yourself if reading that topic/chapter from some advanced book is necessary or not. If you feel that what you learnt from NCERT is not enough to solve questions in competitive exams then (and only then !) read that topic from some other advanced book. For this you can use "Resnik and Halliday's book". Other books can also be used according to your personal preference.

Aswin G,

it is very difficult to select any one book and call it best. Different students like different books. So you choose the one that suits you more. List of some books are given in the articles above.

R Sinha,
there is no standard convention. The angle that we take depends upon the context. Sometimes you have to consider the two cases and sometimes only one case is applicable. If I was teaching you personally I would have demonstrated it with examples.Ask your teachers for further clarifications.
Zaki Anwer,
your books are OK. But use IIT-Maths by R.D.Sharma instead of the normal maths book.
Anonymous,
both abc and Pradeep are OK.Use any one according to your preference. Read my article on board exam for more hints.

Usha,
click here to download NCERT books for free.
Akshay,
yes
Gaurav,
yes, TMH-maths and Arihant-New Pattern are good books.
Aditya,
if you start from now and study sincerely under the guidance of good teachers then you will definitely complete the entire syllabus in 9 months time.So do not waste any more time and start from now.
Anonymous,
for getting high rank in AIEEE you need to have good knowledge of theory and you should have a good problem solving skill in you. If you develop these two by doing any book that you like doing then it does not matter which book you are studying from.So use the book that you enjoy reading. Yes you must practice problem solving from books like Objective Approach-Arihant.

Gaurav,
I think if you have more than 60% marks in PCM then you can appear in IIT-JEE. But you should clarify with IIT office or prospectus.
Jeevraj,
above books are good. But use only one or two books in each subject.
