After tons of research I conclude there are only two that are worth a damn and can actually protect you. In order its ESET NOD32 (big surprise) and Kaspersky. The rest use at your own risk. There are insurmountable piles of research showing the two I mentioned are best. One site I found that shows everything nicely is av-comparatives.org. ESET NOD32 is the king of the hill, if you doubt this do the research! I have been using it myself for a good while now and its wonderful. I discovered it in my quest to find a AV that didn't kill my resources. ESET NOD32 is it, and its a very fast scanner too.
