I quote from that article
I'm sorry but that proves the point you need at minium an AV and Anti-spyware tool to keep a windows install these days. If your missing either one then your in trouble as much you'd like to think your not spyware is a huge problem these days. Even for someone like me that protects their system so well and knows howto do it properly. That tells me that the windows world is in a sad state. One of the numerous reasons I rely on Linux to get the job done. I speak from much expiriance when I say Linux is better. I've used Windows and Linux both for many many years. Linux has been consistantly much more stable and faster performance wise. Especially a CK patched Kernel fine tuned to my hardware, that made Linux run so much faster it made XP look like what it is pathetic. You can't just tweak the windows OS it self by rebuilding it specifically for your hardware. I've even taking drives with existing Linux installs and swaped them to new PCs no problem, try that with oh say XP and boom. Plus with Linux I get the added benefit of having no virus or spyware other than cookies. Linux > windows enough said and those that don't agree either don't know better or are ignorant.

As regular as Christmas decorations, software companies such as McAfee and Symantec roll out new editions of their system and security suites at this time of the year.
If you're not already running an anti-virus program you're asking for trouble. Add a spyware sentry and a bunch of tools to find and fix PC problems, and you've covered most of the bases.
