About me
I am a recent graduate of the William Allen White School of Journalism and Mass Communications at the University of Kansas. The college is located in Lawrence, Kansas, which is about, oh, 30 minutes by car from Kansas City, which should be known not only for its delicious barbecue, but also for terrible seasons of Royals baseball, road construction year-round, and pairs of pants that have been pissed on or near Prospect, Troost, or The Paseo. If you’re familiar with the area, you’ll understand. Everyone else will just have to trust me.At this particular moment in the history of the world, I’m the Creative Services Director for a cluster of radio stations (I make all the commercials and the fancy little ditties you hear between songs), and a DJ on Lazer 105.9, our soccer-mom music station, weeknights from 7:00 to midnight. It is fun, as you might imagine. Trust me, I used to work at a grocery store during a period of 7 months when I was, as they say, “on the beach.” I also do voice work and production on a free-lance basis. If you’d like to get in touch with me about those services, by all means, please send me an E-mail!
Photography is quickly becoming one of my chief hobbies; I use both a pretty nice Canon DSLR camera and a modest Sony point-and-shoot with a built-in Zeiss lens. After taking a couple of photojournalism classes at KU, which were albeit rather enjoyable, and shooting for the University Daily Kansan, I decided that I’m not too keen on shooting news events and that my paramount photographic genre is of the “artsy-fartsy” variety. I try to capture the essence of things from a new angle or perspective, focusing on subjects that most people just pass by. Right now I’m in the process of trying to advance my Photoshop skills and getting some of my best pieces up on Flickr, but for the time being most of them live solely on my hard drive and my Facebook page.
I’m also halfway decent at putting pen to paper and creating art with words. Not poems, mind you, but I certainly have my own ways of expressing myself and my thoughts. Some might just call me a windbag. Check out my blog page for more.
I like to have fun, albeit in some possibly unconventional ways. I like normal stuff like watching sports, drinking beers, eating grilled meat, biking, hiking, swimming, fishing and all the other things normal people like to do. But I also like other things that others would maybe find boring and dull. I like to read the occasional book. I like to put some gasoline in my car, roll the windows down, crank up the radio, and drive to somewhere other than where I currently am. I like taking long walks with my iPod at 4:00 in the morning. I like sitting in a booth at a 24-hour restaurant, drinking cokes and talking to best friends until all hours of the night. I like to play around with computers and technology. I like to get dirt under my fingernails and grass stains on my jeans. I like trying new things and meeting new people. I like stand-up comedy and wish I had the balls to try doing it myself. I like to play drums and record new sounds. I like taking photographs of little things that most people just pass by. I like shopping for furniture and kitchen utensils. I like watching Formula 1 racing. I like using new toiletries. I like playing on playgrounds with my kid nephew and believe that if everyone did that, even once in a while, the world could be a more peaceful place. I like to fall asleep on my couch. I like telling funny stories. I like coming up with interesting and funny ways to describe things. I like getting mail, even bills, because it reminds me that I exist.
