In the medical field, the x-ray machine is useful to get images to diagnose health related problems in patients. Everybody knows that these rays are not appropriate for health; however, can spot tumors and broken bones, as well as, heart and lung problems. Time is changed, and you should know that the radiation of the modern x-ray machines is not endangering for patients, technicians and physicians. However, you should concentrate on some basic precautions, which will allow technicians and physicians to take x-ray images safe and soundly, particularly if the patient is pregnant.
There are a few safety tips that physicians and technicians must follow. These procedures are not too hard to perform. The safety measures that should be followed for x-ray imaging tests will be discussed in the following lines in detail.
1. The x-ray technician should inquire the female patients about pregnancy. Making sure to find out if there is any chance, the female patient might be pregnant or not. It is necessary because x-rays are not recommended in pregnancy and can put the fetus in danger. These rays can also cause some birth defects or deficiencies. Therefore, if the female patient is pregnant, then the x-ray images cannot be allowed except if it is extremely serious or a matter of life and death.
2. The x-ray technician should request the patient to change their clothes and put on the gown, which is used for examination purposes. The x-ray technician must also request the patient to remove jewelry and all accessories because they can be cause for an obscure x-ray image.
3. The x-ray technician should use a lead apron to wrap the patient. This is necessary to for patients who are in the x-ray room for tests. This apron will reduce the quantity of radiation to the other organs related to the reproductive system.
4. The x-ray technician should get the patient to the x-ray room and should place the patient in between the camera and the recorder or film. Technician should tell the patient to stay calm and still, to be able to get the perfect image and result.
5. Once the x-ray test is finished, and the image has taken, the technician should request the patient to leave the x-ray room. After that, the technician can obtain the x-ray film. After getting the film and installing a new one, the technician may call the patient again to take another image if the technician thinks that it is necessary to take more images.
6. Last, the image will be handed over to the radiologist for analyzing purposes, and the result will be passed on after a certain time.
7. Access to x-rays must be restricted, and equipment users or authorized personnel should only enter when an x-ray machine is being used.
8. Remote handling or Long-handle forceps devices should be used.
9. Low x-ray tube currents or fluorescent beam-definers of high radiation sensitivity may be used.
10. The proper functioning of all radiation beam ports, shields, accessories and fittings should be checked before starting the x-ray imaging.
