Anyway, when we finally got there it was well worth the wait, what an amazing place. As we started heading up the mountain we saw that there was snow all around. Hitomi and Hisako started to get a bit worried as we started up the mountain and said that we couldn't go up the mountain because it was snowing but the road seemed fine. I'd like to take a little pause at this point to talk about something that I've experienced a few time before in Japan. Most Japanese people seem to be extremely, overly cautious. I mean some of my friends will text me on a cold day saying "Kato it is very cold outside, please take care of yourself", like I might die if i don't 'wrap up warm' as my mum would say or "Kato it's very hot outside, please make sure you drink lots of water today". Don't get me wrong, I do think its very sweet and lovely but isn't life so much better with a bit of danger in it?! Anyway, back to my point Hitomi's brother had said that it was too dangerous to drive up the mountain, but really there was no snow on the roads, I've driven on roads like that in me Corsa before...so we came to an agreement that we would carry on for as long as we felt was 'safe', although i'm sure our Gaijin opinon of what was safe was completely different to theirs! We were so glad we did because the view was amazing, we stopped off for a snowball fight and managed to get nearly to the top. After that we took a cable car to the very top. There was a big pool of sulphur with fumes bellowing from it, parts were sectioned off because of the smoke/steam?! Great day.
