basket, candy, Easter, grass
I was talking to a coworker yesterday about how I don't get an Easter basket anymore since I moved out of my parents' house. (Not to mention that they live in another state). She said she still sneaks over to her kids' houses and leaves them candy. So this morning, she brought me a little bowl full of candy and grass. Isn't that the sweetest??
Ironically, another coworker came in afterwards, and we had been talking about "sno balls" (by Hostess) and I've never had one, so she brought me one. Now I'm all outfitted for Easter.
Happy Easter, everybody!!

CVS, coupons, prescription, grand opening
...
I have blogged before about how much I love CVS because they give such good coupons and deals. Now I think I've topped my record. A new CVS opened a couple of miles from my house, and they sent me a bag in the mail. Whatever you can fit in the bag, you can get for 20% off. There was also an offer to transfer an old prescription or fill a new prescription and get a $25 gift card.
So first I clipped coupons, and then I went over there today and filled my new prescription for my new migraine medication. I got the $25 gift card.
Then I went shopping. I bought a couple of CVS brand items, and had a coupon to get $2.50 off a CVS brand purchase of $12.50. This week, I had gotten an email for $2 off any FSA-eligible purchase, which I also used. Then I had $1 CVS Extra Buck. Plus most of the items I got were on sale anyway, plus the 20% off. Then the Ponds stuff I was going to buy anyway had a $5 Extra Bucks deal if I bought $10 worth.
My total started out at $49. After the discount and coupons, it was $27, and since I have an FSA account, I only paid $15.56.
The new store manager checked out my order, and we were talking as he checked me out and he was quite nice. I realized when I left that not only did he give me a bag of CVS items (chapstick, ibuprofen, lotion, hand soap and allergy pills) he gave me TWO bags full.
And now I have $30 between the gift card and Extra Bucks to use later. Here's my haul...

stock market, AIG, investing, Sharebuilder
...
I stumbled upon the information that Citibank stock had fallen to $1 per share after being $55 per share two years ago. I happen to have a TD Ameritrade account (Thank you, Suze Orman) with savings account money in it. After reading that article, I immediately purchased Citibank as my first stock. In 11 days, I have made a 143% return on my investment.
This morning I bought shares of AIG, which have gone up today since I bought them. I paid 86 cents per share and right now they're trading at 96 cents.
BTW, if you open a Sharebuilder account, you get a $25 bonus for your first trade. I plan to find another stock to buy with that new account.

bills, save, savings account, insurance
...
Here are some ideas (most of which I've done):
- Open a savings account. Learn to pay it first (ING, Emigrant).
- Open an interest-bearing checking account (ING, HSBC).
- Go through all your bills, and cut out what you don't need.
- Shop car/home insurance for a better rate.
- Change your cell phone plan.
- Make your own detergent/soap (google it).
- Check MSN autos for gas prices.
- Buy a house you can afford (oh, if people had only realized this one BEFORE the housing bubble burst).
- Pay cash for your car. Pay cash for everything, for that matter.
- Craiglist.
- Google "free" and a word. There are blogs that list free samples.
- Walmart.com gives free samples.
- And last, but obviously not least, spend less than you make. Is that so hard?

OMG, this is my new favorite thing! Evidently Fritos thought they'd be cute in the 1960s and their mascot looked like my DAD!

green, recycling, paper, recycle bin
I obtained a very large paper recycling bin for my office at work. I already have 2 inches of paper in it. Which is sad, but good that at least it's being recycled.

green, environment, green living, carbon footprint

This link will bring you to many cool things.
First, there is a recycling center finder. You type in what you're trying to recycle and your zip code, and it finds the info for you.
Next, there is a locator for local and organic food.
Third is a search for where to find green products.

green, going green, reuse, recycle
Since deciding to "go green", here is what I have recycled rather than thrown away:
1 paper bag
1 plastic water bottle
This morning I requested a recycle bin for my office at work.
Sprint has a program where they will recycle old cell phones, with the proceeds going to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. I have one cell phone to dispose of now, which I packed this morning to mail in.
I also emptied 2 plastic bottles, which I'm going to make homemade hand soap in, and a carboard container that I'm going to use to make powdered laundry detergent in.
I am mucho proud.
