MY LOOK ON YOUTH CRIME SYSTEM
I was looking at Canada’s crime statistics that are released every year I was looking over it when I decided to look in to them to see how right they are. What I found really shocked me, the report released from the Ottawa think-tank Macdonald-Laurier Institute for Public Policy, author Scott Newark argues statisticians have tweaked the data so much it’s nearly impossible to understand what’s happening to crime in Canada, or how effective the justice system is at cracking down on repeat offenders. The result is that “many of the most common conclusions that are drawn about crime in Canada are in fact incorrect or badly distorted, says the former Alberta Crown prosecutor.
Violent crime, youth crime and murderous attacks have all been on the rise in Canada, the report shows, with the violent crime rate in 2009 nearly five times what it was in 1962 when Statistics Canada first devised its method of collecting crime statistics from local police departments. Gun crimes are also on the rise, along with robberies, drug trafficking and kidnapping. Sex crimes against children have gone up, although those have only started to be reported recently.
Much of the rise in violent crime likely has more to do with changes in the way StatsCan has analyzed its data than with real changes in criminal behaviour, in part because there aren’t enough data to compare crime over many years. The effect is to keep policy-makers and the public from examining the real face of crime in Canada. mong the problems the report found with Juristat, StatsCan’s report on crime statistics, is that the data are continuously being revised, usually to increase the number of crimes reported in a given year.
But the revisions are done quietly, and months later.
Based on the number and content of media reports on youth crime, it can be inferred that the public is being led to believe that youth crime is increasing in vast and unmanageable numbers, as is the seriousness of the crimes committed. There is, very roughly speaking, one young person charged every week to ten days for a homicide offence. To the extent that our media report these events on a national basis, it means that the public has enormous opportunities to hear about homicides committed by youth.
Although data on public perceptions of youth crime is not readily available, the studies that do exist can be generalized into two common views: (1) the number of youthful offenders in Canada is on the rise relatively and absolutely, especially in terms of violent offences, and; (2) the YOA is not punitive enough to deal effectively with youths, leading to the conclusion that harsher measures must be undertaken. National statistical data lend no support to these views, and smaller scale studies are inconclusive. Both types of data are subject to biases and methodological flaws. Many experts agree that the media are primarily to blame for creating distorted perceptions and keeping the public ill-informed, given the public's reliance upon them. Government and police responses perpetuate the myth of the seriousness of youth crime through, for example, efforts to amend the Young Offenders Act and introduce tougher sanctions for young offenders. The continuation of these beliefs can serve to frustrate attempts to educate the public and bring views in line with the official statistics. Evidence exists that members of Canadian society can become better informed and make more enlightened decisions. This can be accomplished through, first, improved public knowledge of the criminal justice system, second, a better informed media accompanied by more accurate media reports and third, efforts to respect and address the very real fears that accompany public misconceptions about youth crime.

Youth thought Works like A Computer System
As we look at the mind and how thought works I see it working in a few different stats, the mind is working as system taking over many different roots to get where it is going. Right or wrong it will hit one of many conclusions when thinking of a problem. In youth the mind works on a different level not slower but on a different pattern then a adults mind. A youths mind is not fully developed to think the same as some one that is full grown, some may believe that the youth would understand the same as some one that is full grown, but the truth is they can not understand the same, they have a different way of looking at it and there mind working like a computer system is like it is not programmed the same as some one that is full grown. So talking to a youth like there mind is on the same pattern would not be effective as it would be if you talked to them on there own pattern set. There are many different patterns for people to be on a youth and adults pattern is not the same, but will be come on the same pattern ones they youth gets more experience in there life, like if there computer just got new programming.
A youths mind is just developing and you have to take that in account when talking or doing anything with a youth.
you must take your time with dealing with youth and give them the time to get there programming the computer called there mind. The mind of a youth can have good programming and bad programming it all depends some of the good would be like reading a book, some of the bad would be like television, many believe it is all about balance to set the mind on the right pattern, so I think treating a mind like a computer taking patterns would be the right look at this.

Self Care
Looking at the barriers someone faces in there life can and will at some point be a shock to the system. A person can only take so much before there body shows them some kind of sign. If you are stressed out about different things in life your body will tell you if you do not do what it is needed to look after your self.
Many professionals say that the self care of your self is one of if not the most important thing that you can do. Leets face that facts if you do not look after your self you can not look after others. The is one of the biggest mistakes when it comes to people working they just do not take the time to look after them selves and they get burned out. Fore some one in the child and welfare field there expected to last about 2 years before they burn out. One of the things that is being noticed is in all careers the burn out rate is going up every year, this is caused because the people are not taking the time that is needed to recover from the stresses they are faced with in there career.
Looking at this and seeing the way it is if the people working in there career would take the time and look after them self, and give there self the time they need to drop the stress levels a bit, then the 2 years people burn out at may be upped by another few years, bring the total up to around 4 years or more. Thinking about it that still dose not leave much time in the career but in a high stress career the human body and mind can only take so much.
Fore a lot of people some things that may help them get rid of the stress is reading, or watching tv, or just sleeping, fore some people these things can help other people have other methods to help them get there mind right. All of the things that can help with your stress levels are vary important and should be done on a regular bases to help.
Some times people do not feel like they have the time to do something fore them self, this is apart of the stresses that can cause a burn out, some people have to write a action plan for them self and follow it to a tee. Sometimes people who have a hard plan doing something fore them self to help with the stress, needs to get some kind of help with the action plan, to help them follow it on a ongoing bases. Whatever the method most doctors would recommend you do something fore your self to relax. As this is true for all professions it is recommend that the higher the stress level the more time is needed to relax.

Barriers for the Child and Youth Care Worker
Barriers for the Child and Youth Care Worker in New Brunswick.
Child and Youth Care Workers in this day and age have more barriers
than ever before. It is obvious, in the past and now, that Child and Youth
Care Workers are the front line to help children and youth that are in need,
in a number of settings from group homes to schools; in Canada and Worldwide.
Child and Youth Care Workers get to work in this field by completing
a two to three-year programme in a community college leading to a diploma.
Programmes will include coursework and field placement. Typically, the first
year placement is in an elementary school classroom, second year is in a
therapeutic group home, and third is a specialized setting such as a hospital
or other organization, as chosen by the student.
Some individuals enter the child and youth care field with a college diploma
or university degree in a related field, such as psychology, sociology, or
social service worker training. After all that they go and get the job somewhere
in the child and youth care field. They see all kinds of things, anything you can
think of that is out there.
It is the job of the child and youth care worker to help the child
that comes for assistance, it is all up to the child and youth care worker to
find the necessary and available resources to help that child or youth.
The Cycws use whatever resources they can get there hands on:
books, websites, activities, etc.
They also look to see what programs, services and activities organizations
can offer the children and youth. Their biggest resources are the use of free
items and programs that are out there.
As child and youth care workers they leave their footprints on the lives
of the children with whom they work .It is hard, a lot of the child and youth
that come in are ones that do not have much of anything.
The first line of support for these children and youth may be their parents,
or it may be someone else. These people do not know where to find all the
resources at times, or if they find them they do not know how to access them
so that they can get them to work on behalf of the child and youth.
That may be one of the reasons the Child and Youth Care Worker comes
to help, It is not easy, as sometimes the hands of the child and youth
care worker are tied. It is sad when the child and youth care worker
watches but can not do anything for the child and youth.
In order for a child to be raised properly a certain amount of attention
and care has to be given. The first people who can provide these are usually
the parents.
When children are neglected, behavioural problems may occur.
This may lead to them seeking attention by doing things they are not supposed to do.
It will also obligate them to learn how to behave in society from other sources,
like television.
Depending on the relationship between the parents, a child may not learn
how a family is supposed to act and how to interact with other people.
Peers can have a positive and/or negative affect on a childs behaviour
as they spend a lot of time around each other.
Children tend to do anything to be accepted in a group
of friends regardless if it is good or bad. Examples of such behaviours
can be minor things like skipping school and not studying, or much more
serious issues such as drugs, alcohol and violence.
Their environment and society directly impacts upon childrens behaviour. Television is something most children watch daily. Todays society
emphasizes on the bad more than the good and this is reflected in the news
broadcasted. Also the shows promote a lot of violence,
and unsupervised children might take seriously what they watch.
Problems in youth can often be observed at an early age. Young children can
have trouble interacting with other children and may even develop
attention deficit disorders.
When children grow older its harder to identify the behaviour problems
because they will likely become confused with typical teenage rebellion.
The first signs would be decreasing grades and a lack of activity or interest,
not only in school but other aspects as well. When it comes to all this, the
question then would be what can be done to help,
The Cycw sometimes have to come up with an action plan
for these child and youth. But the action plan will only be effective
if all parties that interact with the child and youth are involved in the action plan,
or it may not work. Children and youth may rebel and that makes it hard sometimes.
It seems like the plans that were put together for the child and youth may
not work when they do rebel, Well the thought here is just being patient
with the child and youth, look for what is going to help them the most,
and keep looking until you find it. No child or youth is ever not worth
giving up on, even if they seem out of control they can still be helped.
Looking at different countries around the world and how they handle
the barriers in day to day life with child and youth is interesting.
Some of the countries deal with it in the same manner that we do, others
do not think that they need to do anything at all, they think the youth should
do what they are told to do without question or be punished for not listening. Thinking about the barriers, like the writer has stated before,
is funding, a lot of cities and countries just do not have the funding
to keep programs going or to staff child and youth care workers.
In some of these places it seems the outcome for these troubled
child and youth is very grim.
It seems like programs in these places do not exist, or if somehow
they get started, they do not last very long because of the funding problem.
Also some of the entrance requirements for some programs may
be so prohibitive that people may not qualify for admission to programs
that could put an end to their problems, which is another big barrier for people
in this day and age when that happens. Child and youth care workers
do their best to find these programs for families as well as the child and youth.
For the others that may be involved with the families, like social workers
and other professionals and groups should see what they can do as well.

GIVING YOUNG PEOPLE CHANCES
Thinking about the way the world treats young people to day is sick, people think just because they are young they do not know what is best for them self. In some cases that is not the case some young people have a focus on what they want in there life and are willing to go out and get it. In past history people think that young people are to inexperienced with to know, also that they will just plan out make the wrong choices in there life so some adults do not even want to give young people a chance to prove them self at all, in any setting at all home, to work sort of thing . but the thoughts towards that type of thinking is if you never give a young person a chance to prove anything you doing a injustice. Young people just like anyone want chances to prove they can do just a good job then anyone you make say they can not, but if you never give them that chance how do you really know? Well you could not know at all that is the think, even young people who have screwed up things before need that chance to prove them self again to correct them selves in there own minds just as much as anyone else at all. Did you know it is a fact that a young person developmentally need to be giving chance to prove them selves to mature the right way like they are supposes to. The mind is a strange place and the way it works is on a scale and being giving chances is one part of growing your mind to think out side the box. Chances are one of the human needs in life to prove your self to the world that is what builds you up when you prove your self in what you can do. In child and youth they are always trying to get a proves for things trying to prove that they should be able to do what they want and showing you what they can do this keeps going through out there life. If they do not prove them self that will stay with them and it could effect there older lives in big ways. Chances in life is what keeps people going in there whole life and it will build who they are as a person or at least help with that.
Thinking about everyone should get as many chances as they need because when they reach what they are trying to get to there is know feeling like it and that feeling is what builds the person and helps make them the way they are.

How to Connect with Youth
Some people can connect easer then others with youth some people just seem to have that extra something that just talks to youth. The question asked is what is that extra thing some people have? We can look at it from many different ways some people have some kind of talent that can give them that extra something, some just can connect by talking. It seems like it is not just what you can do or say in some eyes it takes a cretin vibe to talk to youth that helps them connect with different people.
It always seems like youth can tell if there is something to worry about with some one don’t get me wrong not always but for the most part youth can tell about some ones vibes and good ones that come off some one will make it easer for youth to connect and bad ones will make it harder. For people to connect I think it will be easer to do if you do not go in with something else on your mind, you need to be there one hundred percent for the youth if you have any other motive the youth will see write through you. It is one of though things that youth and worker need to be level with each other to work with each other effectively to connect.
The way I look at the whole thing with connecting with youth is this if you go and you keep things from youth that effects them or if you do not treat the youth fairly or on the same level then you will never connect like you should to be able to work with youth on any level. The way it seems is the youth are growing and developing on different scales and they need to know that there is people being level with them. A lot is important to there development to know that they can trust people, if this is not shown to the youth on any level in there development then they will not get what they need to develop like they should, keeping a mistrust to people and not connecting to people on any level. This is important on the home front and school front, also this is important on a front of anyone that works with youth because trust is a big part of connecting and that is why people need to be open with youth to have the trust needed to connect.
So how you connect is all about how you are and what baggage you bring with you on many different levels. Keep your mind in the write place and clear with good intension then you should be able to connect with the youth.

My Thought on Child Development
Child development that occurs from birth to adulthood was largely ignored throughout much of history. Children were often viewed simply as small versions of adults and little attention was paid to the many advances in cognitive abilities, language usage, and physical growth. Interest in the field of child development finally began to emerge early in the 20th-century, but it tended to focus on abnormal behaviour. A study was done and it was said children that gets that support they need will get farther then they may get with out it I am not saying someone with out the support will not go fair I am just saying children that get it from the beginning are more likely to get farther faster. I think children who do not have the support form family or community can still find support from other sources its just it may not be as prudent as other methods. An understanding of child development is essential, allowing us to understand the cognitive, emotional, physical, social and educational growth that children go through from birth and into early adulthood. Some of the major theories of child development are known as grand theories; they attempt to describe every aspect of development, often using a stage approach. Others are known as mini-theories; they instead focus only on a fairly limited aspect of development, such as cognitive or social growth. Children are not developed and with the right amount of support from family, friends, the community that can give them what is needed to become more developed faster then others. According to Freud, child development is described as a series of 'psychosexual stages.' In "Three Essays on Sexuality" (1915), Freud outlined these stages as oral, anal, phallic, latency and genital. Each stage involves the satisfaction of a libidinal desire and can later play a role in adult personality. If a child does not successfully complete a stage, Freud suggested that he or she would develop a fixation that would later influence adult personality and behavior. Theorist Erik Erikson also proposed a stage theory of development, but his theory encompassed development throughout the entire human lifespan. Erikson believed that each stage of development was focused on overcoming a conflict. For example, the primary conflict during the adolescent period involves establishing a sense of personal identity. Success or failure in dealing with the conflicts at each stage can impact overall functioning. During the adolescent stage, for example, failure to develop an identity results in role confusion. Theorist Jean Piaget suggested that children think differently than adults and proposed a stage theory of cognitive development. He was the first to note that children play an active role in gaining knowledge of the world. According to his theory, children can be thought of as "little scientists" who actively construct their knowledge and understanding of the world. As you can see, some of psychology's best known thinkers have developed theories to help explore and explain different aspects of child development. Today, contemporary psychologists often draw on a variety of theories and perspectives in order to understand how kids grow, behave and think. Concluding I think we need to treat children fairly we need to give them the support they need, stand by them and show them the right from wrong, we need to give them all the love and we need to show them how to connect all the dots to make things make sense for the children.
