I'm Still in my FORTIES

Blog for the week ending Wednesday, December 13, 2007
I am still in my 40s, and I will be for a few more days.
So no one is getting any older and everything is staying the same.

Today Bob finally bought living plants to replace the plants that died while he was in the U.S. last August. It was just some big coincidence that the plants died while I was caring for them.
This plant might have originated on Planet Earth. I’m not sure.
And why does this plant smell like the tea I used to drink?
Oh, I get it. It’s Jasmine. Jasmine flower tea must have these things in it.
I love the new gardenia.
Go look on your deck and see if you have any gardenias growing there. They’re really easy to grow. Just stick them out on the deck and water them once in a while. Oh, yeah. Right. The Arctic blasts from Canada. We don’t get those here, but the other day I had to put my jacket on for a bit.
Otherwise, it was a normal day. I worked on the blog... we taught... we ate...
FRIDAY, December 7, 2007
This morning on my way to lunch I stopped by Heidi’s place. Mônica had given Bob a ride there.
I took photos of Bianca and Lexy. It’s my job.
Mônica gave Bob and me a ride to Barrigão for lunch. Bob went home, and I went to Gringolândia. I finished preparing my Christmas letters for mailing. Murilo came by to talk about publicity, and Bob came back to Gringolândia later in the afternoon. I tried to mail my Christmas cards, but the post office had run out of STAMPS, and I didn’t want to have my letters metered.
In the evening our friend and hair stylist Ramos invited us over for toasted cheese sandwiches. He has two sons.
He has this cool device that toasts sandwiches... you just hold the thing over the flame of your gas stove.
Bob and Ramos drank "Soft Fruity Argentina".
I can’t wait for mango season to end. Something about mango season makes me itchy. Could it be cuz I’ve been eating 10 mangos a day?
SATURDAY, December 8, 2007
Bob and I tutored Waldir at his home, while his wife Beth fixed lunch for us.
It was another feast.
We spent half the day with them and their family.
I took more photos...
Bob and I came home and watched a video.
SUNDAY, December 9, 2007
After lunch at Barrigão Bob and I went to visit Heidi and family.
I took the girls for a walk.
We ended up at the bakery that sells ice cream, and the little park near the tattoo studio.
I took a video of Lexy and Bianca.
Brian set up a link that you SHOULD be able to access at:
http://www.mediafire.com/?axdmvxmejsd
It should load automatically, or follow the prompts and you should be able to watch “December 9 2007 151.mov”
Yeah, you have to wait maybe 10 minutes for it to download, but it’s worth it. You can hear Lexy saying, “Quero sorvete não” and “Sorvete acabou” (“I don’t want ice cream” and “ice cream’s all gone”. Bianca and I prefer English.
Eventually Bob and I headed home, making a stop at Carrefour. The cheery beer-and-wine display gave us mixed messages:
“Alcohol is damaging to health, family, and society”. That’s not what the TV ads say.
Bob and I watched a video or two in the evening.
We’ve been getting thundery lightning storms at convenient times, like at night.

Today I went to the downtown post office, thinking that they might have stamps. They did, in fact have stamps, but there was something very complicated about getting the correct stamps placed on my Christmas cards. Finally the clerk came up with a winning combination that equaled one real and 60 centavos: a Christmas stamp... and a stamp honoring manicurists. From there I went to meet Bob for lunch. Then, on to Gringolândia. Our only student for the day canceled, but I did talk to Murilo about publicity.
Bob and I stopped by the fancy cake store so I could wonder what I want for my birthday.
Hmmm... passion fruit? Pineapple? Coconut?
TUESDAY, December 11, 2007
Today was a normal day.... something about lunch... something about Murilo coming by to talk about publicizing Gringolândia... something about our evening class...
WEDNESDAY, December 12, 2007
After lunch today I convinced Bob that he should go buy more plants way out on Avenida Universitaria. Of course I didn’t want to walk that far. So I walked to Gringolândia. I had an appointment with Dr. Lucas. Bob thinks that 6,000 miles was too far for me to come not to be cured by the sunlight, but the sunlight does help, and the Prozac-like pills from Dr. Lucas might help even more.
I was going to meet with two students today, but they canceled. But Murilo didn’t cancel. He came by to collect a wad of money that we’re giving him for publicity.
He’ll have 15,000 shiny flyers distributed... with photos of Gringolândia and everything... Plus 500 posters.
I got home in time to watch the TV novela.
